Godstone Road (A22) Caterham - 50mph Speed Limit Order

What is happening?

THE SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL

Godstone Road (A22) Caterham, Godstone Hill (A22) and Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone 50mph Speed Limit Order 202-

Surrey County Council propose to make the above-named Order under Section 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) and of all other enabling powers, the effect of which will be to: – (1) reduce the existing maximum speed limit from the National Speed Limit of 70 miles per hour to a maximum speed limit of 50 miles per hour in the lengths of road specified and described in the First Schedule to this Notice.; (2) reduce the existing maximum speed limit from the National Speed Limit of 60 miles per hour to a maximum speed limit of 50 miles per hour in the lengths of road specified and described in the Second Schedule to this Notice; and (3) carry out legal drafting amendments to the following Orders which will not affect the operation of those prohibitions on the ground: – (a) “The Surrey County Council (Various Roads in Bletchingley Godstone Nutfield Oxted Redhill and South Nutfield) (Restricted Roads and 40 mph Speed Limit and 50 mph Speed Limit) Order 2001”; and (b) “The Surrey County Council Caterham By-Pass (A22) Caterham (50 mph Speed Limit) Order 2004”. The speed limit proposed by this Order shall not apply to vehicles used by special forces in accordance with the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011.

A copy of the proposed Order together with the plan showing the lengths of road to which this Order relates and a Statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be viewed online at www.surreycc.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/ policies-plans-consultations/roads-and-transport-consultations (follow the link to Godstone By-Pass Proposals). These documents and a copy of the proposed Order may also be viewed at (1) Caterham Valley Library, Stafford Road, Caterham, Surrey, CR3 6JG, during normal opening hours; (2) Tandridge District Council, 8 Station Road East, Oxted, Surrey, RH8 0BT, during normal office hours; and (3) Reception, Surrey County Council, Hazel House, Merrow Lane, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ, by appointment only. If you wish to object to, or make representations relating to, the proposed Order, you must send the grounds for your objection or representation (including any in support), by (1) using the online form via the webpage quoted above or (2) in writing to the undersigned at Traffic Regulation Orders Team, Hazel House, Merrow Lane, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ, by 16 January 2025

First Schedule

(a) that length of the Northbound carriageway of Godstone Road (A22)/Godstone Hill (A22) Godstone as extends from a point 30 metres north of its junction with the (A22) Godstone Interchange to its junction with (A22) Caterham By-Pass and its northern junction with (B2030) Godstone Road

(b) that length of the southbound carriageway of Godstone Road (A22)/Godstone Hill (A22) Godstone as extends from a point 130 metres south of a point in line with the northern junction of the (A22) Godstone Road and (B2030) Godstone Road to a point 30 metres north of its junction with the Godstone Interchange

(c) that length of the northbound carriageway of Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone as extends from a point 100 metres north of its junction at the roundabout with (A25) Oxted Roundabout (hereinafter called the Oxted Roundabout) to a point 50 metres south of its junction with the Godstone Interchange

(d) that length of the Southbound carriageway of Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone as extends from a point 30 metres south of its junction with the Godstone Interchange to a point 100 metres north of the Oxted Roundabout

Second Schedule
(a) that length of the Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone as extends from a point 100 metres south of the Oxted Roundabout to a point 80 metres north of the north-eastern kerb-line of Eastbourne Road (B2236).

Rooks Nest (XZZ) Godstone and Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone (Prohibition of Right-Hand Turn) and (Prohibition of U-Turn) Order 202-

SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL propose to make under Sections 1(1) and 2(1) to (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the abovementioned Order, the effect of which will be to: –

(a) prohibit vehicles that are travelling in a westerly direction on Rooks Nest (XZZ) Godstone from turning right onto the northbound carriageway of (A22) Godstone By-Pass; and

(b) prohibit vehicles that are travelling in a north-westerly direction on Godstone By-Pass (A22) Godstone from making a U-Turn through the gap in the central reservation of that road which lies opposite (XZZ) Rooks Nest.

The above restrictions shall not apply to vehicles being used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes in an emergency; or in relation to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; or in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed on the road by or on behalf of Surrey Police.
