THE M42 MOTORWAY (BETWEEN M5 JUNCTION 4A AND THE A42 AT APPLEBY MAGNA), THE A38, A435, A446 AND A4097 TRUNK ROADS AND CONNECTING ROADS (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the M42 Motorway and the A38, A435, A446 and A4097 Trunk Roads, in the Counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire and the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, to enable maintenance and improvement works, to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place overnight between 19:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Thursday 2 January 2025 and ending on Tuesday 23 December 2025.
The effect of the Order will be to impose prohibitions on the following lengths of carriageway:
(i) the eastbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M5 at Junction 4a, to its junction with the link road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3a;
(ii) the northbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3a, to a point 400 metres north of the centreline of the B4114 Birmingham Road overbridge;
(iii) the northbound carriageway of the M42 from a point 80 metres north of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge to its junction with the A42, at Appleby Magna;
(iv) the southbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the A42, at Appleby Magna, to a point 165 metres south of the centreline of Watton Lane underbridge.
(v) the southbound carriageway of the M42 from a point 615 metres north of the centreline of the B4114 Birmingham Road overbridge, to its junction with the link road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M42 at Junction 3a;
(vi) the westbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3a, to its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M5 at Junction 4a;
(vii) the circulatory carriageway of the A38 at its roundabout junction with the M42 Junction 1 slip roads;
(viii) the circulatory carriageway of the A435 at its roundabout junction with Forshaw Heath Lane and the M42 Junction 3 slip roads;
(ix) the circulatory carriageway of the A446 at its roundabout junction with the A4097 and the M42 Junction 9 slip roads;
(x) the circulatory carriageway of the A4097 at its roundabout junction with the M6 Toll T1 northbound entry slip road;
(xi) the A4097 between its roundabout junction with the M6 Toll T1 northbound entry slip road, and its roundabout junction with the A446 and the M42 Junction 9 slip roads;
(xii) the link road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M42 to the northbound carriageway of the M5 (M5 Junction 4a);
(xiii) the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M42 to the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3a;
(xiv) the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42 to the westbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3a.
(xv) the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42 to the M40, at Junction 3a;
(xvi) the link road leading from the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 7a, to the southbound carriageway of the M6;
(xvii) any slip road or dedicated lane leading to or from the lengths of carriageway described in (i) to (vi) above; and
(xviii) any emergency refuge areas adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in (i) to (vi) above.
During any road closures, traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions of the M42, M5 and M6 Motorways and local roads. These diversions will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the area.

The duration of each prohibition will vary depending upon the nature of the work being undertaken on each occasion.
The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
The Order comes into force on 27 December 2024 and will expire on 23 December 2025.
