What is happening?
WEST MIDLANDS COMBINED AUTHORITY
(BIRMINGHAM EASTSIDE EXTENSION, DIGBETH) TRAM ROUTE RELATED RESTRICTIONS AND PROVISIONS FOR MIDLAND METRO, ORDER 2024
NOTICE is hereby given that WEST MIDLANDS COMBINED AUTHORITY has made an order after exercising the powers conferred on it by Article 44 of The Midland Metro Birmingham Eastside Extension Order 2020 (“the MM Order 2020”) and of all other enabling powers and being satisfied that those parts of this Order made under powers of Article 44 (1) and (2) of the MM Order 2020 are necessary or expedient for the purposes of, in connection with, or in consequence of the construction, maintenance or operation of the tramway and after consultation with the Birmingham City Council and the Chief Constable of the West Midlands Police, the effects of which will be to implement the following:-
Waiting/Loading Restrictions
(1) Prohibition of Waiting, Loading or Unloading at any time on sections of High Street Deritend (Highway and Tramway)/Digbeth (Highway and Tramway), Meriden Street, Mill Lane, Oxford Street, Milk Street, Floodgate Street, Gibb Street, Heath Mill Lane, Adderley Street, Alcester Street, Rea Street, Moat Lane Gyratory, Stone Yard, Chapel House Street, Car Park Bellmouth (Opposite Chapel House Street), Digbeth Court Car Park (West Entrance), Digbeth Court Car Park (East Entrance), Ped Zone Bellmouth (Directly opposite Adderley Street)
(2) Prohibition of Waiting at any Time, Loading or Unloading between 7pm and 7am on a section of Digbeth (Highway)
(3) Loading Bays (20 minutes max, no return within 1 hour) on sections of Digbeth (Highway), High Street Deritend (Highway), Rea Street
Moving Restrictions
(1) One-way Direction of Traffic Northbound on sections of Floodgate Street and Milk Street
(2) One-way Direction of Traffic Southbound on sections of Chapel House Street and Gibb Street
(3) One-way Direction of Traffic Eastbound with a Contraflow Bus Lane with exception for Taxis & Cycles on a section of High Street Deritend (Highway)
(4) Prohibition of Driving except Tramcars on a section of High Street Deritend (Tramway)
(5) Prohibition of Driving except Buses, Taxis, and Cycles on a section of High Street Deritend (Highway)
(6) Left Turn Only Coventry Street onto Milk Street Moore’s Row onto Floodgate Street, High Street Deritend onto Floodgate Street (except for Buses, Taxis and Cycles),
(7) Right Turn Only Milk Street onto Coventry Street Moore’s Row onto Milk Street Floodgate Street onto Moore’s Row
(8) No Left Turn Stone Yard onto Chapel House Street Mill Lane onto High Street Deritend (except Buses, Taxis and Cycles)
(9) No Right Turn High Street Deritend onto Heath Mill Lane Car Park Exit (Opposite Chapel House Street) onto High Street Deritend High Street Deritend onto Alcester Street High Street Bordesley onto Adderley Street Adderley Street onto High Street Bordesley (except Buses, Taxis and Cycles) Gibb Street onto High Street Deritend (except Cycles) Green Street onto Chapel House Street Meriden Street onto High Street Deritend Oxford Street onto High Street Deritend (except Buses, Taxis and Cycles) Digbeth (Highway) onto Digbeth (Tramway) Digbeth onto Meriden Street Heath Mill Lane onto High Street Deritend (except Buses, Taxis and Cycles)
(10) No Entry Stone Yard onto High Street Deritend
High Street Deritend onto Stone Yard
Into Digbeth from the Westbound Direction at the junction with Meriden Street.
Rea Street onto High Street Deritend High Street Deritend onto Rea Street
(11) Prohibition of Motor Vehicles on a section of Stone Yard
(12) Cycle Lane on a section of Digbeth (Highway)
(13) Pedestrian Street on a section of Digbeth (Tramway), High Street Deritend (Tramway)
The Order, with the consent of the Council and after giving 12 weeks’ notice to the Council and Chief Officer of Police, has enacted the above provisions including those listed within Schedule 8 of the (Birmingham Eastside Extension) Order 2020 and will come into operation on 16th December 2024.
