Freemans Place, Temporary Road & Footpath Closure Due To Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Freemans Place, Durham City) (Temporary Road and Footpath Closure) Order 2024
The Council on 29/11/2024 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road and footpath.
Closed to vehicular traffic a 77 metre length of Freeman Place, to the frontage of the Passport Office and Premier Inn.
Closed to pedestrian traffic a 145 metre length of footpath to the southern, western and northern sides of the Passport Office, Durham City to enable scaffold to be erected, owing to unsafe cladding on the adjacent property works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic via the road to the rear of the Premier Inn, with pedestrians diverted to the footway to the front of the Premier Inn.
The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The works have already commenced and will continue from Monday 2/12/2024 and are anticipated to be in place until the area is safe for vehicles and pedestrians, which is anticipated to be in the region of 7 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
