What is happening?
A34 TRUNK ROAD – CHIEVELEY TO SPEEN TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the County of Hampshire and the Unitary Authority of West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to: -
1) authorise the overnight closure of the southbound carriageway of the A34 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Chieveley Interchange (M4 Junction 13) and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Speen Interchange (A4/B4000);
2) impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit restriction on the southbound carriageway of the A34 between a point 650 metres north of and a point 850 metres south of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road for the southbound carriageway of the A339; and
3) impose a width restriction of 3.25 metres in lane 1 and 2.75 metres in lane 2 on the southbound carriageway of the A34 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road and a point 750 metres south of the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road for the southbound carriageway of the A339.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake barrier replacements, and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 3 months starting on Monday 6th January 2025. The closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). Please consult National Highways website for details of all closures. The Order would come into force on 3rd January 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. The A34 Trunk Road (Chieveley to Speen Interchange) (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024 (a) is revoked with effect from the date of the Order coming into force. Traffic affected by the closure at Chieveley would be diverted using the A34, A339 and the B4640. The temporary closures, speed restriction, width restriction, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
