What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 4(1) AND 14(1)(A) AND (C), (4) AND (7)

THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 8 TO JUNCTION 15) AND THE A414 TRUNK ROAD (HEMEL HEMPSTEAD TO ST ALBANS, HERTFORDSHIRE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway in the Counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire and the A414 Trunk Road in the County of Hertfordshire to allow maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 2 January 2025 and be completed by 21 December 2025.

The effect of the Order would be to:

(a) Authorise the overnight closure (20:00–08:00) of the M1 between Junction 8 and Junction 15 and the A414 between Hemel Hempstead and St Albans;

(b) Authorise the closure of:

(i) all slip roads leading to and from the above length of the M1;

(ii) the emergency refuge areas on the above lengths of the M1;

(iii) the laybys on the above lengths of the A414;

(iv) the gaps in the central reservation on the above length of the A414.

During the closures traffic would be diverted via junctions of the M1, A414 and local roads.

The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion.

The closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, works or winter maintenance vehicles), and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs. The prohibitions would only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.

The Order would come into force on 27 December 2024 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
