A12 Trunk Road - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic For Maintenance Works
What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 4(1) AND 14(1)(A) AND (C), AND (4)
THE A12 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 11 BROOK STREET INTERCHANGE, ESSEX TO JUNCTION 33 COPDOCK MILL INTERCHANGE, SUFFOLK)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A12 Trunk Road in the Counties of Essex and Suffolk, to allow maintenance works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 2 January 2025 and be completed by 21 December 2025.
The effect of the Order would be to:
(a) authorise the overnight closure (20.00 – 08.00) of the A12 between Junction 11 Brook Street Interchange, Essex and Junction 33 Copdock Mill Interchange, Suffolk;
(b) authorise the closure of:
(i) all slip roads and service roads leading to and from the above length of the A12;
(ii) the laybys on the above lengths of the A12;
(iii) the gaps in the central reservation on the above length of the A12.
During the closures traffic would be diverted via junctions of the A12 and local roads.
The duration of each closure would vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion.

The closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer or works vehicles), and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
The Order would come into force on 27 December 2024 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
