TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 16A

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Northumberland County Council (“the Council”), in exercise of its powers as the local traffic authority under section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and all other enabling powers, has made on the 20th November 2024 the Northumberland County Council (Berwick Christmas Market 2024) Temporary Traffic Regulation Order 2024 (“the TTRO”).
The Council has made the TTRO for the purposes of facilitating the holding of Berwick Christmas Market 2024 (“the Event”) by restricting traffic on the C424 Margate from it’s junction with West Street to it’s junction with Church Street for a distance of 150 metres (“the Road”).
The TTRO shall come into force at 6:00 hours on 8th December 2024 and will remain in force until 18:00 hours on 8th December 2024, subject to the provisions of section 16B of the Act.
An alternative route will be available for use whilst the TTRO is in force being via the U107 Church Street, the U107 Chapel Street and the U107 Walkergate in Berwick Upon Tweed. Should the need arise changes may be made to the alternative routes, where possible these changes will be signposted accordingly.
All restrictions on the Road will be sign-posted and staffed and will remain in force only for as long as is necessary.
Nothing in the TTRO shall apply to:
a. Any activities taking place on the Road related to the organisation and holding of the Event;
b. Anything done with the permission of, or at the direction of, a police officer or a Duly Authorised Officer of the Council.
c. Any vehicle being used by, or for the purposes of, the emergency services;
d. Any vehicle being used by or for the purposes of a statutory undertaker (e.g. the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which requires vehicles to be brought onto the Road); or
e. Pedestrian access to any premises adjoining the Road.
