A449 And A4510 Trunk Roads And Connecting Roads - Temporary Prohibition of Traffic For Maintenance And Improvement Works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 4(1), 14(1)(a) AND (c), (4) AND (7)
THE A449 AND A4510 TRUNK ROADS AND CONNECTING ROADS (BETWEEN COVEN HEATH AND GAILEY, STAFFORDSHIRE) 
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A449 and A4510 Trunk Roads, in the County of Staffordshire, to enable maintenance and improvement works, to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place overnight between 19:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Thursday 2 January 2025 and ending on Tuesday 23 December 2025.

The effect of the Order will be to impose prohibitions on the following lengths of carriageway:

(1) the A449 northbound from its junction with the access road leading to Boundary Industrial Estate, at Coven Heath to its roundabout junction with the A4510 and the M54 Junction 2 slip roads (Fordhouses Roundabout).

(2) the A449 southbound from its junction with Fordhouses Roundabout, to its junction with the dedicated left turn lane leading to Broadlands, at Coven Heath.

(3) the circulatory carriageway of Fordhouses Roundabout.

(4) the circulatory carriageway of Coven Heath Interchange.

(5) the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout junction of the A4510 and the M54 Junction 2 eastbound exit slip road.

(6) the A449 northbound and southbound between its junction with Fordhouses Roundabout and its roundabout junction with the A5, at Gailey (Gailey Roundabout).

(7) the circulatory carriageway of the A449 at its roundabout junction with Brewood Road, at Coven Heath.

(8) the circulatory carriageway of the A449 at its roundabout junction with Stafford Road and Brewood Road, at Coven Heath.

(9) the A4510 westbound from its junction with Fordhouses Roundabout, to its roundabout junction with the M54 Junction 2 westbound entry slip (Coven Heath Interchange).

(10) the A4510 eastbound from its roundabout junction with the M54 Junction 2 eastbound exit slip road, to its junction with Fordhouses Roundabout.

(11) any slip road, link road or dedicated lane leading to or from the lengths of carriageway described in (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) and (10) above;

(12) any lay-by, service road or bus stop area adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) and (10) above.

(13) During any road closures traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions of the A449 or the A4510 Trunk Road and local roads. These diversions will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the area.

The duration of each prohibition will vary depending upon the nature of the work being undertaken on each occasion.

The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, or winter maintenance vehicles.

The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.

The Order comes into force on 27 December 2024 and will expire on 23 December 2025.
