FOOTPATHS AND BRIDLEWAYS IN GRIZEDALE FOREST, WHINLATTER FOREST AND WHYTE WOODS
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS GIVEN that under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Lake District National Park Authority has made an order dated 14 November 2024. The effect of the order is to prohibit public traffic for all purposes from proceeding over footpaths and bridleways at Grizedale Forest, Whinlatter Forest and Whytop Woods in the parishes of Above Derwent, Colton, Coniston, Hawkshead, Lorton, Satterthwaite and Whytop because of danger to the public from fast moving vehicles during motor sports events.
The notice and plan showing the routes concerned may be inspected during normal office or opening hours at the National Park Authority, Wayfaring House, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal, LA9 7RL; Keswick Tourist Information Centre, Moot Hall, Keswick, CA12 5JR; Forestry England, Whinlatter Forest, Keswick, CA12 5TW; Forestry England, Grizedale Forest, Hawkshead, Ambleside, LA22 0QJ; Customer Services, Westmorland & Furness Council, South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, LA9 4DQ; Customer Services, Cumberland Council, Allerdale House, New Bridge Road, Workington, CA14 3YJ; and online at www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/rowclosures.
The order will take effect at 00:01 on 7 December 2024 and will continue in force for six months, but will only be in effect during three separate days within the six month period:
- For 24 hours, midnight to midnight, on Saturday 7 December 2024 (Grizedale East and Grizedale West).
- For 12 hours from 12:00 noon until midnight on Friday 7 March 2025 (Whytop Woods).
- And for 24 hours, midnight to midnight, on Saturday 8 March 2025 (Grizedale West, Whinlatter Forest and Whytop Woods).
All the routes will be accessible as normal other than on these days. At times when the events are taking place, signs will be erected indicating that the routes are closed.
