Dorset Council

Temporary Closure of Public Footpath 19, Portland

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists will be prohibited from proceeding along Public Footpath, 19 from grid reference SY 697 711 to grid reference SY 697 1057, a distance of approximately 185 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.

It will come into operation on 02 December 2024 for a period of 26 weeks and can be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.

This Order is required for health and safety reasons due to increased frequency of rock falls in the area.

An alternative route will be put in place to avoid the closed section of footpath.

If you would like further information about the closure, please contact David Ackerley on 01305 224630. For further information about Rights of Way matters, please call Dorset Countryside on 01305 221000.
