TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS A249 TRUNK ROAD

A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST ROAD INTERCHANGE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A249 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) and (b) of, and Paragraph 27(1) of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are being executed on and in the vicinity of the road by contractors working on behalf of Kent County Council.

The effect of the Order would be to: -
1. impose a 24-hour 60mph speed limit on: -
a) the southbound carriageway of the A249 between its departure from the A2500 roundabout (Cowstead Corner) and the centreline of Bramblefield Lane overbridge;
b) the northbound carriageway of the A249 between points approximately 140 metres and 3330 metres north of the centreline of the northern
underbridge at Bobbing Junction (B2006);
c) the road leading to the northbound carriageway of the A249 at Bobbing Interchange (B2006); and
d) the road leading to the southbound carriageway of the A249 at Kingsferry Junction.
2. impose a 24-hour 40mph speed limit on all the slip roads at Grovehurst Road Interchange (B2005).

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement and all associated works, during the
Christmas embargo period, whether works are being conducted or not.

It is expected that the provisions would last between 20th December 2024 and 2nd January 2025, after which they will be replaced by a new order providing closures and amended speed restrictions. Please consult National Highways or Kent County Council’s websites for further details.

The Order would come into force on 20th December 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the new order mentioned above comes into force.

The A249 Trunk Road (Grovehurst Road Interchange) (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2023(a) and The A249 Trunk Road (Grovehurst Road Interchange) (Temporary Restriction and Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2023 Variation Order 2023(b) would be revoked with effect from the date of this Order coming into force.

The temporary speed limits would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.

A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST ROAD INTERCHANGE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A249 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on and in the vicinity of the road by contractors working on behalf of Kent County Council.
The effect of the Order would be to: -
1. authorise the phased 24-hour (including full weekend) closure of: -

a) both carriageways of the A249 between the exit and entry slips; and
b) all the slip roads; at Grovehurst Road Interchange (B2005).
2. authorise the 24-hour closure of the following lay-bys: -
a) adjacent to the northbound carriageway of the A249 –
i) between points 130 metres and 330 metres north from the centreline of Quinton Road overbridge;
ii) between points 940 metres and 1160 metres north from the centreline of the existing B2005 overbridge;
b) adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A249 -
i) between points 425 metres and 750 metres south from the centre point of the A2500 roundabout;
ii) between points 1200 metres and 970 metres north from the centreline of the existing B2005 overbridge; and
iii) between points 645 metres and 853 metres south from the centreline of Bramblefield Lane overbridge.
3. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on: -
a) the southbound carriageway of the A249 between its departure point from the A2500 roundabout and the centreline of the Bramblefield Lane overbridge;
b) the northbound carriageway of the A249 between points approximately 140 metres and 3630 metres north of the centreline of the northern underbridge at Bobbing Interchange (B2006);
c) all the slip roads at Grovehurst Road Interchange (B2005);
d) the road leading to the northbound carriageway of the A249 at Bobbing Interchange (B2006); and

e) the road leading to the southbound carriageway of the A249 at Kingsferry Junction.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement and all associated works.

It is expected that the work would last for approximately 7 months starting on or after Thursday 2nd January 2025. The full weekend closures would take place between 20:00 on Fridays and 06:00 on Mondays (maximum periods). Please consult National Highways or Kent County Council’s websites for further details.

The Order would come into force on 2nd January 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

The A249 Trunk Road (Grovehurst Road Interchange) (Temporary Restriction of Traffic) Order 2024 (a) would be revoked with effect from the date of this Order coming into force.

Traffic affected by the closure of the main carriageway would be directed to leave and re-join after the junction in either direction. Traffic affected by the slip closures would proceed to the next available junction in either direction and return.

The temporary closures, speed limits and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
