What is happening?

EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

The East Sussex (Public Footpath Little Horsted 3) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2018

To protect public safety during housing development works, the Secretary of State has extended the above East Sussex County Council’s Order made on 20 April 2018 under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following footpath:

Temporary Footpath Closure

Public Footpath Little Horsted 3 will be closed to all users between TQ 464 194 and TQ 467 195 for 450 metres. An alternative route is available.

The closure will be in force for 18 months from 6 November 2024 or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the footpath still be unavailable to use.

The East Sussex (Public Footpath Newhaven 29 (part)) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2024

To protect public safety during the construction of two new doctors’ surgeries in Newhaven Square, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following footpath:

Temporary Footpath Closure

Part of Public Footpath Newhaven 29 will be closed to all users between TQ 4455 0138 and TQ 4459 0139 for a distance of 57 metres. Unfortunately, there is no alternative route.

The closure will be in force for 6 months from 4 November 2024, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the footpath still be unavailable to use.

The East Sussex (Public Footpath Uckfield 10b (part)  and Uckfield 11 (part)) (Temporary Footpath Closure)  Order 2020

To protect public safety during a major construction scheme, the Secretary of State has extended the above East Sussex County Council’s Order made on 24 July 2020 under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following footpaths:

Temporary Footpath Closure

Part of Public Footpath Uckfield 10b will be closed between TQ 4698 1982 and TQ 4676 1964. Part of Public Footpath Uckfield 11 will be closed between TQ 4696 1986 and TQ 4666 1995. An alternative route will be available as signed. The closure will be in force for 18 months from 6 November 2024, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the footpaths still be unavailable to use.

The East Sussex (A26 Uckfield Road & C402 Chillies Lane, Crowborough) (Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit)  Order 2024

To allow UKPN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily restrict all traffic using the following lengths of road to a speed not exceeding 30 mph:

Temporary 30 mph Speed Limits Uckfield Road – from Malvern House to Furze Hill.

Chillies Lane – from the junction with A26 Uckfield Road to Poundgate Manor.

The Order commences 15 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier. However, it is anticipated the speed restriction will be in place on 15 November 2024.

The East Sussex (U7403 Layby Old A22, Halland) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Layby Old A22 – from the junction with A22 Eastbourne Road to the junction with U7403 Bradfords Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A22 Eastbourne Road – U7403 Bradfords Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 18 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs on 18 and 19 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C340 Chilver Bridge Road, Arlington) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Chilver Bridge Road – from the junction with C39 Station Road to the junction with C340 The Street.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C340 The Street, Wilbees Road – C210 Bayleys Lane, Thornwell Road – A27(T) Lewes Road – C39 Station Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 15 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 15 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U5779 Station Road, Newhaven) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow UKPN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Station Road – from the junction with U5779 Arundel Road to the junction with U5779 Claremont Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U5779 Claremont Road, Mount Road, Arundel Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 18 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 18 and 22 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7071 Bemzells Lane, Herstmonceux) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024 No.2

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Bemzells Lane – from the junction with C1072 Chilsham Lane to the junction with U7070 Studdens Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7070 Studdens Lane – U7071 Trolliloes Lane – U7410 Shrieks Lane – C16 White Horse Road – C1072 Chilsham Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 19 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 19 and 21 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U5660 Broyle Lane, Ringmer) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Broyle Lane – from the junction with U5015 Green Lane to the junction with U5679 Broyle Close.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U5015 Green Lane – U7403 Harveys Lane – B2192 The Broyle – U5660 Broyle Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 18 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 18 and 19 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7809 Park Road, Crowborough) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow SGN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Park Road – from the junction with A26 Eridge Road to the junction with U7809 Nevill Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A26 Eridge Road – B2100 High Street, The Broadway – U7809 Croham Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 18 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 18 and 26 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (A295 Battle Road, Hailsham) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Battle Road – from the junction with P8524 Harebeating Lane to the junction with U7714 Normans Close.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A295 Battle Road, High Street, North Street, George Street, South Road – A22 Hailsham bypass – A271 Lower Horsebridge, Upper Horsebridge, Hawkswood Road – A295 Battle Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 20 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 00:00hrs to 05:00hrs on 20 and 21 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C16 Victoria Road, Herstmonceux) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow Southern Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Victoria Road – from the junction with C16 Joes Lane to the junction with C16 The Causeway.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C16 The Causeway, White Horse Road, Bodle Street Road, Back Lane – C279 Rushlake Green – C15 Cowbeech Road, Foul Mile, Cowbeech Road, Cowbeech Hill, Featherbed Lane – A271 Amberstone, New Road, Hailsham Road, Gardner Street, Windmill Hill Road – C16 Victoria Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 19 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 19 and 20 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C39 High Street/Whiteway, Alfriston) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

High Street/Whiteway – from the junction with P8997 Cuckmere Road to the junction with U7125 River Lane. A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C39 Waterloo Square, North Street – C120 Lullington Road, The Street, Litlington Road – A259 Eastbourne Road – C39 Alfriston Road, Whiteway and vice versa.

The Order commences 19 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 21:00hrs to 06:00hrs on 19 and 20 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

The Order commences 18 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs between 18 and 23 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

Rose Walk Close – for its entire length.

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Dern Lane – from the junction with U7672 Stalkers Lane to Longshaw Farm.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U7039 Dern Lane – C208 Furnace Lane, Tanyard Hill – C328 Foxhunt Green – U7676 Graywood Lane – U7672 Stalkers Lane and vice versa.

The Order commenced 18 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 6 and 7 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Eridge Road – from the junction with C70 Bunny Lane to the county border.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A26 (KCC) – A267 Frant Road (KCC) – A267 Frant Road – C70 Bunny Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 4 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs between 4 and 9 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7674 Swansbrook Lane, Chiddingly & Horam) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Swansbrook Lane – from the junction with A267 Eastbourne Road to the junction with C330 Gun Hill.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A267 Eastbourne Road, Horam Road – C114 Chiddingly Road – C330 Pick Hill, Gun Hill and vice versa.

The Order commences 4 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 4 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U7853 Perrymans Lane, Buxted/Herons Ghyll) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic)  Order 2024 No.2

Perrymans Lane – from the junction with A26 Uckfield Road to the junction with C402 Hurstwood Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C402 Hurstwood Road – U7502 Rocks Lane – A26 Uckfield Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 4 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 4 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Black Hill/Church Hill – from the junction with U7848 Whitehouse Lane to the junction with B2026 High Road.

The Order commences 4 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 4 and 15 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The Order commences 4 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 4 and 8 November 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

Nash Street – from the junction with A22 Golden Cross to the junction with C330 Thunders Hill.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C330 Thunders Hill, Gun Hill, Pick Hill – C114 Stonehill, Hale Green, Scrapers Hill, Muddles Green, Burgh Hill Road – A22 Golden Cross and vice versa.

The Order commenced 17 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Bodle Street Road – from the junction with C16 Back Lane to the junction with U7919 Iwoods Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C16 White Horse Road – C1072 Chilsham Lane – C344 Stunts Green – C15 Cowbeech Road, Foul Mile, Cowbeech Road – C279 Rushlake Green, Rookery Lane – C16 Back Lane and vice versa.

The Order commences 7 November 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. The East Sussex (C718 Old Swan Lane, Hailsham) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow J&G Traffic Ltd to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Old Swan Lane – at the junction with C411 Station Road for a distance of 50 metres.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic Anti-Clockwise via C718 Old Swan Lane, Mill Road, Market Street, Market Square – A295 George Street – C411 Station Road and Clockwise via C411 Station Road – A295 George Street, North Street, High Street – C718 Market Square, Market Street, Mill Road, Old Swan Lane.

The Order commenced 1 July 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. The East Sussex (Lewes Bonfire) (Special Event) Order 2024

To facilitate the holding of the Lewes Bonfire celebrations, to reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the event and for the expediency and safety of the participants, the travelling public and other highway users, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 16A to C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily impose restrictions in Lewes and the surrounding area in the following lengths of road:-

Temporary Road Closures from 17.00hrs on 5 November to 01.00hrs on 6 November 2024 A275 (A277) Brighton Road – from the junction of A27(T) (Ashcombe roundabout) extending northwards via A275 Nevill Road to B2116 Plumpton Road, Offham.

Diversion via A275 – A272 – A22 – A27(T) and vice versa.

U5065 Southerham Lane – from the junction of A27(T) to A26 Cliffe Industrial Estate.

Diversion via A27 – A22 – B2192.

C7 Kingston Road – at the C324 Wellgreen Lane junction.

Diversion via C324 Wellgreen Lane to the A27(T) Ashcombe roundabout and vice versa. U5012 Hamsey Lane – at the junction of A275. Diversion via A275.

Temporary Prohibition of Waiting (Including verges and footways) from 12.00hrs on 5 November to 02.00hrs on 6 November 2024

A26 – from the A27 Southerham roundabout, northwards including the Cuilfail Tunnel to the junction with C112 Ham Lane encompassing the existing permanent prohibition of waiting order located on Malling Hill. Including the A26 lay-bys.

B2192 – from its junction with A26 Earwig Corner to its junction with C113 New Road.

C7 – from the C324 Wellgreen Lane junction northwards to the junction with the A277 at the Prison crossroads including Bell Lane and Winterbourne Hollow, encompassing the permanent prohibition of waiting orders located on Southover High Street and Bell Lane.

C324 Ashcombe Lane & Wellgreen Lane – from the junction with the Ashcombe roundabout (A27) to the junction with the C7.

A275 – from the A27 Ashcombe roundabout to the junction with the A277 at the Prison crossroads extending northwards on the A275 to the junction with the B2116 Plumpton Road, Offham encompassing the permanent prohibition of waiting located on the A275 (A277) Brighton Road and the A275 Nevill Road, including bays on Nevill Road.

U5137 Brooks Road, South Downs Road, Mayhew Way and Church Lane – from the junction of the Phoenix Causeway to the junction with Malling Down, encompassing the permanent prohibition of waiting on these roads.

U5065 Southerham Lane – from the junction with the A27(T) to the pinch point outside Unit 24, Cliffe Industrial Estate.

The temporary prohibition of waiting restriction and temporary road closure restriction will include the roads and their junctions off the A26 between A27 Southerham roundabout to the junction with B2192 Earwig Corner, including the junctions with U5137 Church Street, U5135 Mill Road, U5134 Spences Lane, U5134 Orchard Lane, U5136 The Spinneys, U5164 Wheatsheaf Gardens, U5138 Daveys Lane, U5139 Thomas Street, U5160 Cliffe Industrial Estate and U5143 South Street.

Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Unloading & Parking (including prohibition of disabled parking) from 12.00hrs on 5 November to 02.00hrs on 6 November 2024 in the roads listed below. Parked vehicles may be removed.

Bell Lane, Brighton Road, Brooks Road, Cliffe High Street, Cockshut Road, Commercial Square, East Street, Eastgate Street, Friars Walk, Garden Street, Grange Road, Ham Lane, High Street, John Street, Juggs Close, Juggs Road, Kingston Road, Lancaster Street, Landport Road, Lansdown Place, Little East Street, Malling Street, Market Street, Morris Road, Mountfield Road, Nevill Road, North Street, Offham Road, Phoenix Causeway, Potters Lane, Prince Edward’s Road, Priory Street, Railway Lane, South Downs Road, Southover High Street, Spital Road, St Anne’s Crescent, St John’s Terrace, St Pancras Road, Stansfield Road, Station Street, Sun Street, The Course, West Street, Western Road, White Hill, Winterbourne Hollow,

The Order will be in force from 12.00hrs on 5 November until 02.00hrs on 6 November 2024.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, unless otherwise directed by the police for operational reasons. Vehicular access will be at the discretion of Sussex Police e.g. care workers medical, social services and pre-identified BSG members.
