What is happening?

WAKEFIELD COUNCIL

(TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO 4) ORDER 2024

NORTH BAILEYGATE, PONTEFRACT (PART)

The Council of the City of Wakefield, in exercise of powers conferred by the Road Traffic

Regulation Act 1984 and the Traffic Management Act 2004, has made the above Order, the effect of which, in relation to North Baileygate, Pontefract (part) will be to introduce a one way street system on part of North Baileygate. The scheme will rationalise traffic movements and improve efficiency and safety by the introduction of the following:

1.   Removing the difficult right turn from North Baileygate junction onto the A645, which is near the retail park junction, by amending its current two-way section to a new one-way route between A645 to The Booths.

2.   Introduce a short section of one-way road to accommodate the changes in section 1.

3.   The introduction of new pedestrian facilities as part of the changes proposed in section 2 to provide safe crossing points on North Baileygate and across the A645.

4.   A new mini roundabout at the junction with The Booths to manage amended flows in sections 1 and 2.

5.   A new length of cycle lane for inbound cyclists along the proposed North Baileygate one-way route mentioned in section 1 and continuation of this lane beyond the new mini roundabout for 40 metres.

The Order comes into force on 1st November 2024 and a copy of the Order, together with a map showing the affected road and the Statement of Reasons for proposing to make the Order may be requested via email trafficregs@wakefield.gov.uk or you can view a copy on the website www.wakefield.gov.uk/tro. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirements of that Act or of any Instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may, within six weeks from the date upon which the Order was made (ie. 28th October 2024 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
