What is happening?
SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984: SECTION 14
TEMPORARY CLOSURE, REVERSAL OF ONE-WAY TRAFFIC, SUSPENSION OF ONE-WAY TRAFFIC AND SUSPENSION OF 7.5 TONNE WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON PART OF THE B1115, C497, U4541, C431, U4540 AND B1113 VARIOUS ROADS, STOWMARKET, BADLEY AND NEEDHAM MARKET
Suffolk County Council has made an order closing the following roads in the following phases:
B1115 Tavern Street, Stowmarket
During this closure there will be a one-way reversal on the C497 Bury Street, Stowmarket from the junction with the B1115 to no. 41 Bury Street.
There will also be a southbound closure on the C497 Bury Street, Stowmarket from Union Street West to no. 41 Bury Street to assist with the one-way reversal.
B1115 Finborough Road, Stowmarket from Tavern Street to 15 metres west of Childer Road
- U4541 Childer Road, Stowmarket from the B1115 for 30 metres northbound.
During this closure there will be a suspension of one-way on the U4541 Childer Road, Stowmarket from the B1115 to Violet Hill Road to allow for two-way traffic for access and egress from Violet Hill Road.
- U4541 Childer Road, Stowmarket from the B1115 for 30 metres northbound.
B1115 Finborough Road, Stowmarket from 15 metres west of Childer Road to the junction with Recreation Road
C431 Recreation Road, Stowmarket in the following stages:
a) From the junction with the B1115 to Chilton Avenue, Stowmarket
b) From Chilton Avenue to Curwen Road, Stowmarket
c) From 30 metres southwest of Curwen Road to the junction with Violet Hill Road
- U4540 Chilton Avenue, Stowmarket at the junction with Recreation Road insofar as works require
- U4540 Curwen Road, Stowmarket at the junction with Recreation Road insofar as works require
- U4540 Kent Road, Stowmarket at the junction with Recreation Road insofar as works require
This is to facilitate a gas mains replacement project.
Other closures and traffic management may apply during this period.
Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

For the B1078, the B1113, the A1308 and vice versa
? For the southbound closure on the C497 Bury Street, Stowmarket - the A1308, the B1115 with no vice versa
For the B1115 Finborough Road - the B1078, the B1113, the A1308 and vice versa
? For the U4541 Childer Road - the B1115, Recreation Road, Violet Hill with no vice versa
For the B1115 Finborough Road - the B1078, the B1113, the A1308 and vice versa
For the C431 Recreation Road - Violet Hill Road, the A1308, the B1115 and vice versa
? For the U4540 Chilton Avenue - Onehouse Road, Windermere Road and vice versa
? For the U4540 Curwen Road and Kent Road - Silverdale Avenue, Windermere Road, Onehouse Road and vice versa.
? For the duration of phases 1, 2, and 3 there will be a suspension of the 7.5 tonne weight restriction on the:
? B1113 Stowmarket Road, Badley
? B1113 Badley Hill, Badley
? B1113 Stowmarket Road, Needham Market
? B1113 High Street, Needham Market
It is intended that these measures will operate:
- Phase 1 - from 28/10/2024 - 08/11/2024
- Phases 2 and 3 - from 11/11/2024 - 13/12/2024
- Phase 4 - from 06/01/2025 - 21/02/2024
If necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PART OF THE U1738 CAXTON ROAD, PROVIDENCE PLACE AND POUND ROAD AND C964 RAVENSMERE, ROSEMARY LANE AND U1738 FEN LANE, BECCLES
Suffolk County Council has made an order closing the following roads in the following phases:
- U1738 Caxton Road, Beccles from no. 11 to the junction with Noel's Walk
- U1738 Providence Place, Beccles from no. 10 Pound Lane to no. 15
- U1738 Pound Road, Beccles from the junction with Providence Road to the junction with Ravensmere East
- C964 Ravensmere, Beccles from the junction with Rosemary Lane and no. 49
? Rosemary Lane, Beccles from no. 1a to no. 12
- U1738 Fen Lane, Beccles from the junction with Bridge Street/Ravensmere to no. 1.
This is to facilitate the installation of a new telecommunications duct. Other coordinated works may also take place during this period.
Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.
The diversion routes will be:
Phase 1
- Northbound: Newgate, Station Road, George Westwood Way, Gresham Road and no vice versa
- Southbound: Gresham Road, George Westwood Way, Pound Road, Ravensmere and no vice versa
Phase 2
- Northbound: Ravensmere, Newgate, Station Road, George Westwood Way, Gresham Road, Providence Place and no vice versa
- Southbound: Providence Place, George Westwood Way, Common Lane North, Pound Road and no vice versa
Phase 3
- Ravensmere East, Ravensmere and vice versa
Phase 4 (Ravensmere)
- Northbound: Ravensmere, Ravensmere East, Common Lane North, George Westwood Way, Norwich Road, Loddon Road, Gillingham Dam, Bridge Street and no vice versa
- Southbound: Bridge Street, Gillingham Dam, Loddon Road, Norwich Road, George Westwood Way, Common Lane North, Pound Road and no vice versa
Phase 4 (Rosemary Lane)
- Northgate, Ravensmere and vice versa
Phase 5
- Ravensmere, Ravensmere East, Pound Road, Fen Lane, Pound Road and no vice versa
It is intended that the closure will operate from 28/10/2024 - 05/11/2024 but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).
