What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (A689 Sedgefield) (Temporary Contraflows, Speed Restrictions, Prohibition of Turns and Road Closure) Order 2024

The Council on 25/10/2024 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, all vehicular traffic is to prohibit and restricted from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described below:

1. Prohibitions/Contra-flows and Road Closure

To prohibit the movement of vehicular traffic with contraflow over an approximate 923 metre length of road of the A689/A177 Roundabout and the junction with Unc 44.8 Beacon Lane, Sedgefield a) No person shall cause any vehicle to enter or proceed in one or more lanes of the eastbound carriageway of the length of road specified in Article 2a of this Order. Central reserve crossovers and farm access crossovers from both eastbound and westbound lanes of A689 to be closed b) During the closure of the eastbound carriageway specified in Article 2a, no person shall cause any vehicle to i) Enter or proceed in the nearside lane of that opposing length of A689 westbound carriageway, as specified in Article 2a, other than in an easterly direction ii) Overtake any moving vehicle in that length of westbound dual carriageway iii) To make a U-turn in that length of westbound dual carriageway.

2. Road Closure To Prohibit vehicular traffic from travelling on a) the eastbound carriageway in an easterly direction of A689 between its junctions with the A689/A177 Roundabout and the junction with Unc 44.8 Beacon Lane, Sedgefield b) a 63 metre length of Saddler Drive from the junction with Cordwainer Grove and A689 Roundabout and c) a 205 metre length of C38 Stockton Road from the junction with the road between Beacon Lane and Stockton Road and the junction with A689.

3. Prohibition of Right Turn To prohibit vehicular traffic from making a right turn from the following junctions with A689 a) A177 northbound dual carriageway b) Unc 44.9 Stockton Road c) Unc 44.8 Beacon Lane d) A689 Westbound central reservation towards Beacon Lane and e) Track from Cote Nook Farm.

4. 50 MPH Speed Limit Restriction No vehicular traffic should proceed at a speed in excess of 50 miles per hour on i) A689 eastbound dual carriageway from a point 1000 metres west of circulatory road of the A689/A177 Roundabout, Sedgefield ii) A177 northbound carriageway from a point 1000 metres south of circulatory road of the A689/A177 Roundabout, Sedgefield and iii) A689 westbound dual carriageway from the central reservation opposite Green Hill Farm.

40 MPH Speed Limit Restriction No prohibit vehicular traffic should proceed at a speed in excess of 40 miles per hour on i) A689 eastbound dual carriageway from a point 200 metres west of circulatory road of the A689/A177 Roundabout, Sedgefield ii) A177 northbound carriageway from a point 200 metres south of circulatory road of the A689/A177 Roundabout, Sedgefield and iii) A689 westbound dual carriageway 200 metres from the central reservation opposite Green Hill Farm. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are anticipated to be 9 days between 7am-7pm daily from Saturday 26/10/2024. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed accordingly.
