Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A259 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

This forms an extension of Temporary Notice NH/2024/E770 (which it thereby replaces) as permitted by The Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992 (a), Regulation 7.

The effect of the Order is, in phases, to authorise:-

1.   the 10-hour overnight closure of –

(a)  both carriageways of the A259 between Kettle o’Fish Roundabout and King’s Avenue (east); and

(b)  all side roads at junction with the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) above.

2.   a 12-hour overnight parking ban –

(a)  on any part of both carriageways of the A259 between the Kettle o’Fish Roundabout and King’s Avenue (east) not already restricted by double yellow lines or pedestrian crossings;

(b)  in the parking area adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the A259 between points 82 metres and  128 metres east of the centreline of its junction with King’s Avenue (west).

These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works including lining and re-studding, bridge works, and all associated works.

It is expected that the work will last for approximately 3 weeks starting on or after Saturday 19th October 2024. The overnight closures referred to in Article 1 above will take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The parking ban will be in force between 19:00 and 07:00 hours.

The Order will come into force on  19th October 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.

Through traffic affected by the closure phase between Kettle O’Fish Roundabout and Skinner’s Roundabout will be diverted strategically using the B2089, A28, B2088, and A268 in either direction. Through traffic affected by the closure phase between Skinner’s Roundabout and Kings Avenue will be diverted strategically using the A268, A229, A262, A28, A292, A2070 and A259 in either direction. Local traffic will move in either direction within the strategic diversion either side of but not through the closures, with the exception of residents fronting the closures who will be allowed access under works permission/escort.

The temporary closures, parking restrictions, and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
