What is happening?

EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

The East Sussex (U2253 Croxden Way, Eastbourne)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Croxden Way – from the junction with U2248 Hazelwood Avenue to the junction with U2253 Welbeck Close.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U2253 Croxden Way – U2248 Hazelwood Avenue and vice versa.

The Order commences 14 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 14 October 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (A2021 Bedfordwell Road, Eastbourne)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow ES Pipelines Ltd to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as

amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Bedfordwell Road – from the junction with A2021 Lewes Road to the junction with U2128 Gorringe Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A2021 Bedfordwell Road, Whitley Road – A259 Seaside – A2290 Lottbridge Drove – A2280 Cross Levels Way – A2021 Kings Drive, Prideaux Road, Lewes Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 16 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 19.00hrs to 06.00hrs between 16 and 18 October 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (U2144 Pevensey Road, Eastbourne)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Pevensey Road – from the junction with U2148 Bourne Street to the junction with U2146 Cavendish Place.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U2148 Bourne Street – B2136 Langney Road – U2146 Cavendish Place and vice versa.

The Order commences 28 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 28 October 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

The East Sussex (C40 Jevington Road, Jevington/Willingdon)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2024

To allow BT Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Jevington Road – from the junction with U7092 Church Lane to the junction with P8875 Wayfaring Down.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C40 Jevington Road, Wannock Road – A2270 Eastbourne Road, Willingdon Road, Upperton Road – A259 The Goffs, High Street, Church Street, East Dean Road, Eastbourne Road, Friston Hill – C40 Jevington Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 28 October 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 28 October 2024 depending upon the weather conditions.

PROPOSED AMALGAMATION OF WEST RISE COMMUNITY INFANT SCHOOL AND WEST RISE JUNIOR SCHOOL AND CHANGE OF AGE RANGE

The proposals are being made by East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE.

Part 1: Closure of West Rise Junior School

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that East Sussex County Council proposes to discontinue the following community school with effect from 30 April 2025.

West Rise Junior School, Chaffinch Road, Eastbourne BN23 7SL.

Part 2: Alteration of the upper age limit at West Rise Community Infant School

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 that East Sussex County Council proposes to change the age range at the following community school from 4-7 to 2-11 to create an all-through primary school with nursery provision with effect from 1 May 2025.

West Rise Community Infant School, Chaffinch Road, Eastbourne BN23 7SL.

The all-through primary school’s pupil capacity would be 630 which is equivalent to the places currently available at the separate infant and junior schools. The primary school would continue to operate on the existing school site under a single governing board and headteacher.

All children attending the infant and junior schools on the date of amalgamation would automatically have a place at the primary school. No children would be displaced by the proposals. At the May 2024 School Census, West Rise Community Infant School had 267 children on roll and West Rise Junior School had 356 children on roll.

The proposal is not related to any other school organisation proposal which has been or is about to be published.

Explanatory note

East Sussex County Council will determine the statutory proposal within two months of the end of the representation period. If the Council fails to determine the notice within this time, it will pass all relevant material to the Schools Adjudicator who will determine the notice.
