What is happening?

BRIGHTON & HOVE CITY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

NOTICE is hereby given that Brighton & Hove City Council ("the Council") proposes to make the Orders named below under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended when they come into force will introduce various changes as detailed under the order titles below. On January 27 2023 the orders detailed below were advertised and comments to these orders were taken to Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee on the 14 March 2023 (agenda item 91). These proposals were approved at this Committee and then following change in a administration were reviewed (by Councillors and Officers) where it was proposed to make some additions to the initial proposals.

The new amendments will introduce a prohibition of motor vehicles in Steine Street, permit Taxis to make a right turn from King's Road/Little East Street onto Grand Junction Road and to extend the bus lane to Pavillion Place on Castle Square; these changes are included within the changes listed below.

BRIGHTON & HOVE VARIOUS CONTROLLED PARKING ZONES CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2024 AMENDMENT ORDER NO.* 202* (TRO-30A-2024)

Zone C

  • Old Steine - Makes changes to existing waiting and parking restrictions to introduce no loading at any time, removal of taxi rank, shared parking, motorcycle bay and relocation of doctors' bays and disabled bays.
  • Introduces no loading at any time on part of Steine Street.

Zone Z

  • Old Steine - Makes changes to existing waiting and parking restrictions to introduce no loading at any time, removes paid parking, car club bay, time restricted taxi rank and one motorcycle bay. New taxi ranks and bus stands and relocates loading bays.
  • Castle Square - removes loading bay on north side (for the installation of a bus stop clearway) and extends the length of no loading at any time.
  • Pool Valley - removes one public service vehicle parking bay to introduce new loading bay.

BRIGHTON & HOVE OUTER AREAS (WAITING, LOADING AND PARKING) AND CYCLE LANES CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2024 AMENDMENT ORDER NO.* 202* (REF: TRO-30B-2024)

  • Introduces a new mandatory cycle lane on Old Steine (northern carriageway) adjacent to the War Memorial.

BRIGHTON & HOVE SEAFRONT (VARIOUS RESTRICTIONS) CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2024 AMENDMENT ORDER NO.* 202* (REF: TRO-30C-2024)

  • Marine Parade - removes paid parking bays, taxirank and loading bay and introduces no loading at any time.
  • Grand Junction Road - Introduces a new taxirank and no loading at any time.
  • Madeira Drive -updates description for loading bay.

BRIGHTON & HOVE (BUS LANES) CONSOLIDATION ORDER 2018 AMENDMENT ORDER NO.* 202* (REF: TRO-30D-2024)

Amends the current bus lanes, bus gates and routes and introduces bus lanes:

  • Old Steine/Pavilion Parade - bus lane only at any time from just north of St James Street to just north of Pavilion Street.
  • Old Steine - bus lane at any time leading into Castle Square and up to Pavilion Place.

BRIGHTON & HOVE (VALLEY GARDENS) TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ORDER NO.2 202* (REF TRO-30E-2024)

  • Introduces a prohibition of driving on the section of Old Steine (western carriageway) which runs north from Castle Square northwards to Pavilion Parade/Old Steine.
  • Makes sections of the Old Steine one way.
  • No right turns from Old Steine into Steine Street, Old Steine section leading to Princes Street and Pavilion Street, allows taxis to turn right from Little East Street/ Kings Road onto Grand Junction Road.
