A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern and Northern Approaches, Greenwich, Temporary Prohibition of Traffic

What is happening?

Transport for London PUBLIC NOTICE:

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

THE A102 GLA ROAD (BLACKWALL TUNNEL SOUTHERN APPROACH, BLACKWALL TUNNEL AND BLACKWALL TUNNEL NORTHERN APPROACH, ROYAL BOROUGH OF GREENWICH AND LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

1. Transport for London in consultation with the Royal Borough of Greenwich hereby gives notice that it has made the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable works for the upgrade of the existing alignment of the A102 carriageway in different phases along with the future tie-in to the new Silvertown Tunnel to take place on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach/ Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from entering or proceeding:

(1) in a northerly direction on A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach between its junctions with the A102 northbound off-slip road connecting it to Blackwall Lane and Tunnel Avenue;

(2) on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach northbound on-slip road connecting Peartree Way and Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach;

(3) on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach northbound on-slip road connecting Blackwall Lane and Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach;

(4) in a northerly direction on Tunnel Avenue between its junctions with the unnamed access road to No.215 Tunnel Avenue and Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach;

(5) in a southerly direction on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach, Blackwall Tunnel and Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach between its junctions with the Brunswick Road southbound off-slip road connecting it with East India Dock Road and the unnamed on-slip road connecting it to Blackwall Lane;

(6) on the A102 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach southbound on-slip between its junctions with East India Dock Road and Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach;

(7) entering or proceeding in a northerly direction on Brunswick Road between its junctions with East India Dock Road and Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach;

This Order will also:

(8) permit all vehicles to enter Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach at its junction with Tunnel Avenue northbound;

(9) prohibit any bus from using the bus gate between the A102 southbound off-slip to East India Dock Road and Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach.

Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

The Order will be effective at certain times from 10.00 PM on the 11th October 2024 and 7:00 PM on the 30th June 2025 or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs: (1) For Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach southbound via East India Dock Road westbound, Commercial Road, Butcher Row, The Highway, Rotherhithe Tunnel, Lower Road, Evelyn Street, Creek Road, Deptford Church Street, Deptford Bridge, Blackheath Road, Blackheath Hill, Shooters Hill Road and Sun in the Sands Roundabout to normal route of travel; (2) For Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach northbound closure via Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach northbound off-slip to Blackwall Lane, Blackwall Lane northbound, Millennium Way, Ordnance Crescent and Tunnel Avenue to normal route of travel; (3) For Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach northbound from Woolwich Road via Peartree Way, Bugsby's Way, Millennium Way, Ordnance Crescent and Tunnel Avenue to normal route of travel.
