What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -
SECTION 14(1)(A) AND (7) THE A14 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 37 EXNING
INTERCHANGE, SUFFOLK) (SLIP ROADS) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) has made an Order on the A14 Trunk Road in the County of Suffolk to enable third party
resurfacing, kerb realignment, installation of traffic signals and general routine maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works will take place overnight in phases (Mon to Fri), (8pm to 5am) starting on or after Monday 14 October 2024 and are expected to last for approximately 7 weeks. The effect of the Order on the A14 at Junction 37 Exning Interchange will be to –

1. Impose, for 24 hours daily in conjunction with lane closures and temporary traffic lights, a speed limit of 40 miles per hour on the eastbound and westbound exit slip roads.

2. Prohibit, overnight, during eastbound and westbound entry slip road closures, no right turn movements from the eastbound and westbound exit slip roads onto A142 Fordham Road, Newmarket – diverting traffic left onto the A142 Fordham Road to the nearest roundabout to return via the opposite
carriageway and continue their journey.

3. Close in phases, the –

• eastbound exit and westbound entry slip roads – diverting traffic eastbound on the A14 to exit at J40 then via Coalpit Lane and the A14 westbound to J37, and

• westbound exit and eastbound entry slip roads – diverting traffic westbound on the A14 to exit at J35 then via the A14 eastbound to J37 and continue their journey.

The temporary speed limit (which will not apply to emergency services or special forces vehicles), closures (which will not apply to emergency service,
works or winter maintenance vehicles) and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs. The Order will come into force on 7 October 2024 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months whichever is the earlier.
