Ponteland Road And Callerton Lane - No Stopping At Any Time

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(B6918 PONTELAND ROAD AND CALLERTON LANE - RED ROUTE)
TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 26th September 2024 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 124 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The effect of the Order, which will come into operation on 21st October 2024, is to -

(a) introduce a red route restriction which means no stopping at any time for any purpose on the following lengths of road -

(i) Airport access road, both sides, from its junction with A696 (Newcastle Airport Roundabout) eastwards for 95 metres,

(ii) Exit access road from filling station, both sides, from the Airport access road northwards for 20 metres,

(iii) Ponteland Road (B6918), both sides, from its junction with A696 (Newcastle Airport Roundabout) to a point 35 metres north of its junction with Callerton Lane,

(iv) Prestwick Terrace, north east side, for its entire length,

(v) Layby between Prestwick Terrace and Ponteland Road (B6918), north east side, for its entire length,

(vi) Prestwick Terrace North, both sides, from its junction with Ponteland Road (B6918) westwards for 16 metres including radii,

(vii) Prestwick Terrace South, both sides, from its junction with Ponteland Road (B6918) westwards for 17 metres including radii,

(viii) Airport Freightway, Woolsington, both sides, from its junction with Ponteland Road (B6918) north eastwards for 25 metres,

(ix) Callerton Lane, both sides, from Ponteland Road (B6918) westwards to the A696 northbound slip road, including the roundabout circulatory areas.

except the restriction will not apply to local buses stopped at bus stop clearways, emergency services vehicles on operational duty, vehicles stopped by statutory undertakers/the Council whilst carrying out maintenance duties, Taxis (within the limited definition of the term as set out in Schedule 1 of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016, therefore meaning Hackney Carriages only) only for so long as is necessary to drop off/pick up passengers

BUT NOT in the red route bus stop clearways, Royal Mail postal vehicles, vehicles required by law to stop, vehicles stopped to avoid an accident, vehicles stopped from proceeding by circumstances outside their control, vehicles displaying a disabled person badge stopped only for so long as is necessary to enable a disabled person to get into/ out of the vehicle.

(For information, the existing permit parking places on the south west side of Prestwick Terrace - item 11.791F in Schedule 11 to the City of Newcastle upon Tyne (On Street Parking Places) Order 2009 will remain in place and will not be amended or altered as a result of the Order.)

(b) revoke the existing no waiting at any time restrictions on the following lengths of road -

(i) Ponteland Road - south west side, from 22.7 metres south of Prestwick Terrace South north westwards to the A696,

(ii) Ponteland Road - north east side, from the A696 south eastwards for 196 metres,

(iii) Ponteland Road - north east side, from 16.3 metres north of Prestwick Terrace South southwards for 39 metres,

(iv) Prestwick Terrace - east side, for its entire length,

(v) Prestwick Terrace North - both sides, from Ponteland Road westwards for 21 metres,

(vi) Prestwick Terrace South - both sides, from Ponteland Road westwards for 23 metres,

(vii) Ponteland Road (B6918), Woolsington - both sides, from 45 metres south of Callerton Parkway nortwards for 440 metres,

(viii) Callerton Parkway, Woolsington - both sides, from Ponteland Road westwards for 350 metres,

(ix) Airport Freightway, Woolsington - both sides, from Ponteland Road north eastwards for 25 metres.

(c) revoke the existing Twenty-Four Hour Clearway on Ponteland Road (B6918) from its junction with the A696 to its junction with Callerton Lane Ends.

4. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order you may, within six weeks from 26th September 2024, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
