What is happening?
NORTH LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL
A73 MAIN STREET AND SCHOOL ROAD, NEWMAINS (TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE) ORDER 2024
On 16 September 2024 the North Lanarkshire Council made the above-named Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by Schedule 1 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, and in exercise of all other enabling powers, which makes it unlawful for any person to drive or cause or permit to be driven any motor vehicle (with the exception of vehicles engaged on installation of a pedestrian crossing and implementation of road network improvements) on the undernoted roads by reason of works being executed on or near those locations.
Phase 1
A73 Main Street, Newmains from its junction with A722 Manse Road to its junction with School Road a distance of 350m or thereby.
Alternative routes: Vehicles on the north side of the closure wishing access to the south side of the closure should proceed via A722 Manse Road, A722 Cambusnethan Street, A722 Kirk Road, A721 Stewarton Street, A721 Wishaw Road, A71 Overtown Road and A73 Main Street. Vehicles on the south side of the closure wishing access to the north side of the closure should proceed vice versa.
Phase 1A
A73 Main Street (Northbound only), Newmains from its junction with School Road to its junction with A722 Manse Road a distance of 350m or thereby.
Alternative routes: Vehicles on the south side of the closure wishing access to the north side of the closure should proceed via A73, Main Street, A71 Overtown Road, A721 Wishaw Road, A721 Stewarton Street, A722 Kirk Road, A722 Cambusnethan Street and A722 Manse Road.
Phase 1B
A73 Main Street (Southbound only), Newmains from its junction with School Road to its junction with A722 Manse Road a distance of 350m or thereby.
Alternative Route: Vehicles on the north side of the closure wishing access to the south side of the closure should proceed via A722 Manse Road, A722 Cambusnethan Street, A722 Kirk Road, A721 Stewarton Street, A721 Wishaw Road, A71 Overtown Road and A73 Main Street.
Phase 2
School Road, Newmains from its junction with A73 Main Street to its junction with Church Avenue a distance of 180m or thereby.
Alternative routes: Vehicles on the north side of the closure wishing access to the south side of the closure should proceed via School Road, A722 Manse Road and A73 Main Street. Vehicles on the south side of the closure wishing access to the north side of the closure should proceed vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained, at all times, during the closure.
The Order, will come into operation at 0001 hours on Monday, 30 September 2024 and will remain in operation until 2359 hours on Sunday, 1 December 2024.
