What is happening?
THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL
(MEN’S & WOMEN’S 10K) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION)
ORDER 2024 – TEMP/24/167
The Council, with the consent of Scottish Ministers, has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate the holding of Edinburgh 10K events, no person shall: (a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the sections of roads specified in Sch 1, where closures apply to roads in their entirety unless otherwise stated; (b) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on the sections of roads specified in Sch 2, otherwise than in the direction specified in the said Schedule; & (c) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle on the sections of the roads specified in Sch 3, where prohibitions apply to both sides of the roads in their entirety unless otherwise stated. Existing restrictions will be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in Sch 3 below.
The following restrictions shall be suspended:
(1) between 05:00hrs & 12:30hrs on 22/9/24: (i) prohibition of entry on Ramsay La, to allow traffic access and egress from Ramsay La to Castlehill; & (ii) bus, taxi & cycle lane on Johnston Ter, to allow general traffic to travel eastbound; &
(2) between 08:00hrs & 12:30hrs on 22/9/24: (i) bus, taxi & cycle lane on Candlemaker Row, to allow general traffic to travel southbound from Merchant St to George IV Bridge; & (ii) one-way restriction on Grassmarket (service road), to allow general traffic to travel eastbound between King’s Stables Rd and West Bow.
The Greenways Order 1997 will be suspended between 06:00hrs & 12:30hrs on 22/9/24 in so far as the no stopping restrictions and loading bays on the affected section of Lothian Rd are affected by this Order.
The alternative route for vehicular traffic is via London Rd, Leith Walk, York Pl, Queen St, Saint Colme St, Ainslie Pl, Great Stuart St, Randolph Cres, Drumsheugh Pl, Drumsheugh Gdns, Chester St, Palmerston Pl, Torphichen St, Dewar Pl, Morrison St, Lothian Rd, Earl Grey St, Brougham St, Melville Drv, Summerhall Cres, Sciennes, Sciennes House Pl, Causewayside, West Preston St, East Preston St, Dalkeith Rd, Blacket Ave, Minto St, Mayfield Gdns, Craigmillar Park, Liberton Rd, Gilmerton Rd, Kingston Ave, Old Dalkeith Rd, Craigmillar Castle Rd, Duddingston Rd West & Willowbrae Rd (Horse Wynd & Queen’s Drv etc).
The order shall have effect during the hours and on the dates specified in the Schedules.
SCHEDULE 1 ROAD CLOSURES:
(A) from 05:00hrs to 12:00hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Johnston Ter; (ii) Lawnmarket, from the easternmost extent of the roundabout at Castlehill, eastwards to its jnct with George IV Bridge; & (iii) Castlehill, from the eastern kerbline of Ramsay La, eastwards to its jnct with Lawnmarket;
(B) from 08:30hrs to 11:30hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Market St; (ii) Cockburn St; & (iii) Waverley Bridge, from 40m south of its jnct with Princes St, southwards to its jnct with Market St;
(C) from 09:15hrs to 09:45hrs; & from 10:45hrs to 11:15 hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Bank St; (ii) Nth Bank St; (iii) The Mound; (iv) Mound Pl; & (v) Hanover St, from Rose St to Princes St;
(D) from 08:30hrs to 13:00hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Jeffrey St; (ii) Canongate; (iii) New St, from Canongate to East Market St; (iv) Cranston St; (v) Horse Wynd; (vi) Queen’s Drv; (vii) High St, from Canongate to Nth Bridge; (viii) Blackfriars St; (ix) Niddry St; (x) Cowgate; (xi) Cowgatehead; (xii) West Port; (xiii) Bread St; (xiv) Grassmarket, two-way section in its entirety; (xv) Lady Lawson St, from Lauriston Pl to West Port; & (xvi) East Fountainbridge, from Bread St to Riego St;
(E) from 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs on 22/9/24 on West Approach Rd: (1) from the eastern kerbline of Roseburn St, generally eastwards to the point where the western section of the West Approach Rd meets the on-ramp from Dundee St; & (2) from the exit from the eastern section of the West Approach Rd, south-westwards to its jnct with Angle Park Ter/Dundee St; &
(F) from 09:30hrs to 13:30hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Roseburn St, from its jnct with Westfield Rd, northwards to the northern kerbline of the northmost service entrance to Scottish Gas Murrayfield; & (ii) Westfield Rd, from the eastern kerbline of Roseburn St, south-westwards for 125m.
SCHEDULE 2 ONE-WAY ROAD:
from 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs on 22/9/24 on West Approach Rd, from its jnct with Dundee St, eastwards to its jnct with Lothian Rd, otherwise than in an eastbound direction.
SCHEDULE 3 PROHIBITION OF WAITING, LOADING & UNLOADING:
(A) from 22:00hrs on 21/9/24 to 12:00hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Johnston Ter; (ii) Lawnmarket, both sides, from Castlehill to George IV Bridge; & (iii) Castlehill, both sides, from the eastern kerbline of Ramsay La, eastwards to its jnct with Lawnmarket; &
(B) from 06:00hrs to 12:30hrs on 22/9/24 on: (i) Bank St; (ii) Nth Bank St; (iii) Waverley Bridge, from 40m south of its jnct with Princes St, southwards to its jnct with Market St; (iv) Market St; (v) Jeffrey St; (vi) Canongate; (vii) High St, both sides, from Canongate to Nth Bridge; (viii) Blackfriars St; (ix) Niddry St; (x) Cowgate; (xi) Candlemaker Row, east side, in its entirety; (xii) Grassmarket, both sides of the two-way section in its entirety; (xiii) West Port; (xiv) Bread St; (xv) Lothian Rd, both sides, from Bread St to West Approach Rd; (xvi) Westfield Rd: (a) sth-west side, from Stevenson Rd to Gorgie Rd (excl. recessed parking bays); & (b) nth-east side, from 40m northeast of its jnct with Westfield Ave/Westfield Rd, north-eastwards for 20m & (xvii) George St, nth side, from 105m east of its jnct with Hanover St, eastwards for 50m.
