The A19 Trunk Road (Easington to Peterlee) - Traffic Restriction to enable Lighting Renewal Works
What is happening?

THE A19 TRUNK ROAD
(EASINGTON TO PETERLEE)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A19 Trunk Road, in County Durham, to enable street lighting renewal works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Monday 7 October 2024 for 11 weeks or until completed. The effect of the Order will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to close the A19:
(i) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Peterlee Interchange to the entry slip road at the Little Thorpe Interchange, a distance of 2500 metres;
(ii) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Little Thorpe Interchange to the entry slip road at Wellfield Interchange, a distance of 2350 metres;
(iii) northbound entry slip road and southbound exit slip road at the Peterlee Interchange;
(iv) northbound entry slip road and southbound exit slip road at the Little Thorpe Interchange; and
(v) southbound entry slip road at Stockton Road. During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance). The Order comes into force on 15 October 2023 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
