Durham, Temporary Footpath Closure Due To New Housing Development Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Public Right of Way Footpath Number 49 & 51, off High West Road, Crook) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2024
The above-named Order made by the Council on 6/3/2024, under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and which became operational on 6/3/2024 has been continued in force from 6/9/2024, as approved by the Secretary of State for Transport, until 6/9/2026 or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.
The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on following lengths of public footpath:
1. A 208 metre length of Footpath No 49 Crook Parish that extends northwards from A689 High West Road Crook
2. A 138 metre length of Footpath No 51 that extends north easterly between A689 High West Road and Footpath No 49 to enable new housing development works to be undertaken.
Throughout the period of closure an alternative route will be made available to pedestrian traffic from the southern side of the closures via the associated footways of A689 High West Road westerly to the property known as Westcroft then northerly via an offered footpath leading north to Footpath Number 48 and continuing north easterly to Footpath Number 49 to the northern side of the closure, and vice versa.
