The M62 Motorway (Junction 29 to Junction 30) - Bridge Maintenance Works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14

THE M62 MOTORWAY 

(JUNCTION 29 TO JUNCTION 30)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order  on the M62 Motorway in the District of Leeds,  to enable essential bridge maintenance works  to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Sunday 29 September 2024 for 12 weeks, or until completed.

The effect of the order will be from Monday  30th September 2024, to impose, 24 hours a day, at times during the works,

(i)   a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M62 eastbound carriageway from 100 metres east of the entry slip road at Junction 29 (Lofthouse Interchange) eastwards for a distance of 1600 metres;

(ii)  a temporary 50mph speed restriction and ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9’6” in specified lanes on the M62 westbound carriageway from 300 metres east of the entry slip road at Junction 30 (Rothwell Interchange) westwards for a distance of 2600 metres; It will be necessary from Sunday  29th September 2024, to close, between 8pm and 6am at times during the works, the:

(iii) M62 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 29 to the entry slip road at Junction 30, a distance of 4650 metres;

(iv) M62 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 30 to the entry slip road at Junction 29, a distance of 4650 metres;

(v)  the link road connecting the M1 Motorway southbound carriageway with the M62 eastbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange (M1 Junction 42 and M62 Junction 29);

(vi) M62 eastbound entry and westbound exit slip roads at Junction 29;

(vii )M62 eastbound exit and westbound entry slip roads at Junction 30.

It will also be necessary to close between 6am and 8pm from Monday 30th September 2024 and any subsequent Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday and Friday thereafter until the said works have been completed, and between 8pm on Friday 4 October 2024 and 6am on Monday 7 October 2024 and any subsequent weekend thereafter until the said works have been completed the emergency refuge areas adjacent to the lengths of carriageway as described in (iii) and (iv).

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 28th September 2024 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
