The East Sussex (A268 Rye Road/Main Street, Rye Foreign & Peasmarsh)

(Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit) Order 2024

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily restrict all traffic using the following lengths of road to a speed not exceeding 30 mph:-

Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit

Rye Road/Main Street – from the junction with B2082 Iden Road to the junction with P6738 Orchard Way.

The Order commences 6 September 2024 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier. However, it is anticipated the speed restriction will be in place between 6 and 16 September 2024.

To allow Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Edmund Road – from the junction with U3223 Godwin Road to the junction with U3225 Githa Road.

To allow BT to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Herrings Road – from the junction with C18 Ponts Green to the junction with U6118 Lakehurst Lane.

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Station Road – from the junction with U6938 Coppards Lane to the junction with U6936 Dixter Lane.

York Gardens – from the junction with U3329 Queens Road to the junction with U3329 Wellington Place.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via U3329 Queens Road, Wellington Place.

The Order commences 6 September 2024 and is made following the issuing of a Temporary Notice and a Temporary Successive Notice under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. It is anticipated that the works will be undertaken between 6 and 13 September 2024 dependent upon weather conditions. (Temporary 40 & 30 mph Speed Limit) Order 2024

To allow ALS Civil Engineering Ltd to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily restrict all traffic using the following lengths of road to a speed not exceeding 40 and 30 mph:

Restriction is anticipated to be in place between 23 and 30 September 2024.

Restriction is anticipated to be in place between 23 September and 19 October 2024.

Notice is hereby given that East Sussex County Council have made an Experimental Order on 30 August 2024, coming into operation on 13 September 2024 under Sections 9, 10(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, for a period not exceeding 18 months which will experimentally introduce the following restriction:

Experimental Prohibition of Vehicles

Monday-Friday

Between the hours of 8.15am and 9.00am and between the hours of 2.45pm and 4.15pm All Saints Lane its entire length

The purpose of this Order is to facilitate a Safer School Street scheme at All Saints Primary School.

A copy of the Experimental Order, plans showing the lengths of road and a statement of the Council’s reason for making the Order, may be examined in Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and online at; https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/economy-transport-environment/school-streets-scheme-all-saints-ce-primary-sidley East Sussex County Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions should be continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (4), 3(2), 4(2), 32, 35(1) and (3), 45, 49, 51, 52, 53 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Any person wishing to make an objection or other representation concerning this Experimental Order being continued must do so in writing, together with the grounds on which it is made, to Communities, Economy & Transport, Parking Services, B Floor, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St. Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1UE or email tros@eastsussex.gov.uk by 13 March 2025 quoting ref ETRO/502 (or if the Order is subsequently varied or modified by an Order made under Section 9, 10(1) or 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, six months from the date of coming into operation of such variation or modification).

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Experimental Order or of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may within six weeks of the date the Order is made, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
