Durham, Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Ongoing Flooding Issues

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Footpath No. 52, Durham City) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2024

The Council on 23/8/2024 made the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended, Section 14 (1) to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on a 594 metre length of Footpath No. 52, Durham City from the western side of Framwellgate Bridge in a southerly direction to the western side of Prebends Bridge due to ongoing flooding issues and to enable investigations works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of closure, a diversion will be available to pedestrian traffic via Footpath No. 61 between the eastern side of Framwellgate Bridge and the eastern side of Prebends Bridge.

The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The works are expected to commence from 8am on Friday 30/8/24 for a period of up to 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed accordingly.
