What is happening?

THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY PUBLIC PATH NOTICE PUBLIC FOOTPATH 408087 AND PART OF PUBLIC FOOTPATH 408037, STANLEY GHYLL, ESKDALE PARISH TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS GIVEN that under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Lake District National Park Authority intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an order.

The effect of the order will be to prohibit public traffic for all purposes from proceeding over Footpath 408087 and part of Footpath 408037 between SD 1743 9982 and SD 1735 9958 at Stanley Ghyll, Eskdale, to enable us to carry out tree felling and extraction to comply with a Statutory Plant Health Notice. The notice and plan showing the route concerned may be inspected during normal office or opening hours at the National Park Authority, Wayfaring House, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal, LA9 7RL; at Cumberland Council Customer Services, Market Hall, Market Square, Whitehaven, CA28 7JG; and at Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Main Street, Ravenglass, CA18 1SW; and online at

The order will take effect on 16 September 2024 and will continue in force for six months, but the works are expected to be completed in October. Whilst works are taking place, only one of the two footpaths will be closed at any time. Signs will be erected showing which path is closed and which may be used as an alternative route. If the works have not been completed within six months, the order may be extended for a further period with the approval of the Secretary of State.
