THE A5 TRUNK ROAD (CHIRK BYPASS, WREXHAM COUNTY BOROUGH) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC PROHIBITIONS & RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 202-

THE WELSH MINISTERS propose, in not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which is necessary to undertake works on or near the A5 trunk road at Chirk Bypass, Wrexham.

The effect of the proposed Order will be to temporarily:

i. prohibit all vehicles (other than those being used by the emergency services or for the works), cyclists and pedestrians from proceeding along the length of the Chirk Bypass between the Wales/England border and Halton Roundabout.

Where possible, carriageway closures will be for short periods of time and no alternative routes will be required. However, where longer closures are needed, the alternative route for northbound traffic from Gledrid Roundabout will be via the northbound B5070 Chirk Road and eastbound A5 to re-join the trunk road at Halton Roundabout: vice versa for southbound traffic from Halton Roundabout. The weight restriction on the B5070 bridge at Chirk will be suspended when works are undertaken.

ii. impose a 50 mph, 40 mph, 30 mph or 10 mph speed limit on the length of the A5 described above. The 10 mph speed limit is expected to apply during convoy working and no overtaking will be permitted at such times.

The Order will come into force on 1 September 2024. The temporary prohibitions and restrictions are expected to operate intermittently from 06:00 hours on 1 September 2024 for a maximum duration of 18 months.
