M5 Motorway Junction 26 To 28 - Temporary Restriction And Prohibition of Traffic For Resurfacing And Associated Maintenance Works
What is happening?

THE M5 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 26 TO 28)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the M5 motorway in Devon and Somerset to enable resurfacing and associated maintenance to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place on or after 1 September 2024 and be completed by 31 March 2025.
The effect of the Order will be to:
(a) authorise the overnight (20.00 to 06.00) closure of the M5 Motorway northbound and southbound between Junctions 26 and 28:
(b) authorise the overnight (20.00 to 06.00) and weekend (20.00 Friday to 06.00 Monday) closure of:
(i) the northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 26;
(ii) the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 27;
(iii) the northbound entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 28;
(c) impose a mandatory 50 or 60 mph speed limit on:
(i) the M5 northbound and southbound between 400 metres south of the Junction 28 overbridge and the A38 overbridge at Maiden Down;
(ii) the northbound entry slip at Junction 28;
(iii) the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 27;
(d) prohibit vehicles over 2 metres wide from using the outside lanes of the M5 northbound and southbound between 640 metres north of the Junction 28 overbridge and 250 metres south of the A38 overbridge at Maiden Down;
(e) authorise the operation of a contraflow on the lengths of the M5 given at (d) above.
There would also be hard shoulder running through the works.
During the closures traffic will be diverted via Junctions of the M5 and local roads.
The temporary mandatory speed limits (which would not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles), closures, contraflow, width restrictions, hard shoulder running, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works period and would only apply when traffic management measures are in place.
The Order would come into force on 30 August 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
