Barrow-In-Furness, Temporary Road Closures Due To Barrow Super Soapbox Challenge Event

What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, BARROW) (BARROW SUPER SOAPBOX CHALLENGE) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the Barrow Super Soapbox Challenge ("the Event") in Barrow Town Centre Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order under Section I6A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the 1984 Act), with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport under Section 16(B)(6) of the I984 Act, the effect of which is to:

A. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road in Barrow Town Centre detailed in the schedules below, but only at the times and dates stated:

SCHEDULE 1 (from Friday 16 August 2024) Extent of Restrictions and times:

Dalton Road, from its junction with Portland Walk, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with Harrison Street; Portland Walk, from its junction with Crellin Street for its entire length

Duration: from 0900 hours on Friday 16 August 2024 to 2300 hours on Saturday 17 August 2024.

Dalton Road, from its junction with High Street, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with Portland Walk

Duration: from 1145 hours on Friday 16 August 2024 to 2300 hours on Saturday 17 August 2024.

SCHEDULE 2 (from Saturday I7 August 2024) Extent of Restrictions and times:

Scott Street from its junction with Dalton Road, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 40m; and. Cavendish Street from its junction with Fell Street, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 70m; and High Street, from its junction with the Whittaker Street, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 80m; and Buccleuch Street, from its junction with the Whittaker Street, extending in a north easterly direction to its junction with Fell Street; and Crellin Street, from its junction with the Allison Street, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 80m; and Fenton Street from its junction with Allison Street, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with Fell Street; and Stephen Street from its junction with Dalton Road for its entire length. Duration: between 0700 hours and 2200 hours on Saturday 17 August 2024.

N.B The restriction detailed in Schedule 2 item 6 relating to Fenton Street will not apply to residents of that street who wish to access the road to park their vehicles.

There are no suitable alternative routes available for vehicles. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

B. Temporarily suspend the existing Prohibition of Driving along that section of Dalton Road, Barrow-in-Furness between its junction with Harrison Street and its junction with Cavendish Street to allow access/egress for those vehicles being used for the setting up and taking down of the Event N.B. the existing exemptions other than for Police, Fire or Ambulance Service will not apply.

C. Prohibit ALL VEHICLES (including heavy goods vehicles and Armoured Security Vehicles) from proceeding along that section of Dalton Road, Barrow-in-Furness that lies between its junction with Cavendish Street and its junction with Buccleuch Street.

The Order will come into operation on I6 August 2024 and may continue in force for a period of up to three days from that date as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed, although it is anticipated that it will only be required as stated above.
