Cumberland, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Highway Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A596 WIGTON TO THURSBY) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the A596 between Wigton and Thursby from its junction with the B5302 at Wigton to its junction with the A595 at Thursby Roundabout.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via the A595, A594 Maryport Road and Ellenborough Road and the A596, King Street, Queen Street, Lawson Street and Park Road, Aspatria, Waverton and Wigton.

The Order will come into operation on 28 August 2024 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 3 weeks between 1900 and 0600 hours, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
