2 no. street trees located between D4129 St Johns (service road) and A429 St Johns are proposed to be removed to accommodate a proposed shared footway/cycleway facility through the area and to help minimise conflict between cyclists and pedestrians moving through the area via the adjacent crossings.

The removal of the 2 no. street trees and associated root retention systems above ground will also provide an opportunity for enhancement of the footway area to help deliver an overall improvement in the quality and appearance of the street.

ALTERNATIVES TO FELLING

Alternatives to tree felling have been considered, such as altering the proposed alignment of the Cycleway, but to ensure there is sufficient space for both pedestrians & cyclists to pass through the area safely & comfortably and with good visibility to meet design and safety standards the removal of the 2 trees is necessary.

REPLANTING PROPOSALS

To offset the removal of the existing street trees in St Johns, 4 No. replacement trees are proposed to be provided in the immediate vicinity. The location, number, size and species of the proposed replacement trees is shown on drawing 9.2A429-068-038.
