The M6 Motorway (Junctions 26-27 Carriageways & Slip Road) - Temporary Restriction of Traffic

THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 26-27 CARRIAGEWAYS & SLIP ROAD)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M6 Motorway, in the Borough of Wigan, in the County of Greater Manchester, to enable resurfacing works, and other general maintenance to be carried out in safety.

The Order will impose a 50 mph speed limit on the following sections of the M6 Motorway:

i.    the northbound carriageway, from a point 715 metres south of the exit slip road at J26, to a point 1,610 metres north of the Orrell Road Bridge;

ii. the southbound carriageway, from a point 425 metres south of the Vicarage Footbridge, to a point 200 metres south of the Orrell Road Bridge;

iii. the northbound entry slip road at J26; iv. the hard shoulder adjacent to the northbound carriageway, from a point 95 metres north of the entry slip road at J26, to a point 1,410 metres north of the Orrell Road Bridge; when used as a running lane as indicated by speed restriction signs

v. the hard shoulder adjacent to the southbound carriageway, from a point 1,680 metres north of the Orrell Road Bridge, to the Orrell Road Bridge; when used as a running lane as indicated by speed restriction signs.

The restrictions are expected to take place overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Monday 9 September 2024 and ending on Friday 25 October 2024.

However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completed.

The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special forces vehicles and will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
