What is happening?

A2070 TRUNK ROAD – FINBERRY, ASHFORD
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A2070 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be: -
1) to authorise, as required, the closure, in phases as required in periods of up to 24 hours: -
a) the southbound carriageway of The Boulevard between its junction with The Parade and its junction with the A2070;
b) both carriageways of Westbrook Avenue between its junction with the A2070 and their divergence/merge with the adjoining slips;
c) all of the slip and link roads leading to and both carriageways of the A2070 to and from The Boulevard and Waterbrook Avenue at Orbital Park crossroads;
d) the northbound carriageway of Avocet Way between its divergence from the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A2070 and its junction with the A2070;
e) the westbound fast link road at Sevington Roundabout; and
f) the cycle tracks adjacent to both carriageways of the A2070 between its
junction with Avocet Way and a point 230 metres south-west of the centreline of Church Road junction;
2) to impose, over 24-hour periods, a mandatory 40 mph speed restriction on the eastbound carriageway of the A2042 and A2070 between points approximately 500 metres and 1710 metres east of Flanders Field Roundabout (A2042);
3) to prohibit, over 24 hours, any vehicle from making a right turn, and from using the dedicated filter lanes for the purpose thereof, at Orbital Park crossroads:-
a) from either carriageway of the A2070 into The Boulevard and Waterbrook
Avenue as appropriate; and
b) from The Boulevard into the westbound carriageway of the A2070.
Lane closures would also be operated.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement correction works and all necessary associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 2 months starting on or after Monday 2nd September 2024. Shift patterns were unconfirmed as to the timing of the closures at the point of going to press. Work may also be suspended completely by the need to implement the Kent Traffic Management Plan and would re-start only when the embargo is lifted in early 2025. Please refer to National Highways website for details.
The Order would come into force on 31st August 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the carriageway and slip closures would be diverted by using other roundabouts on the A2070 and A2042 (Flanders Field and Sevington) and Waterbrook Avenue (Arrowhead Road) and returning to the crossroads.
The cycle tracks would be closed alternately so pedestrians and cyclists would use the available alternative on the other side of the road, or use a segregated area of the carriageway as available.
The temporary closures, speed restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
