What is happening?

CROYDON COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT, 1984 SECTION 14, AS AMENDED
THE ROAD TRAFFIC (TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS) ACT 1991
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC & PARKING COULSDON ROAD AREA – COULSDON ROAD, NINEHAMS ROAD JUNCTIONS, MACAULAY ROAD, NINEHAMS ROAD, STITES HILL ROAD & BUXTON LANE

1. Croydon Council, with the agreement of Surrey County Council, HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that to facilitate essential drainage works in Coulsdon Road they intend to make an Order the effect of which would be to temporarily restrict traffic and parking in the roads listed in the Schedules to this notice.

2. Whilst the said works are taking place:-

a) The roads listed in Column 1 of Schedule 1 to this notice will be closed as detailed in Column 2 of that Schedule.

b) Parking in the roads listed in the Schedule 2 to this notice will be prohibited and waiting and loading restrictions will apply at any time in the locations specified in Column 2 of that Schedule.

c) A width restriction prohibiting vehicles with a width in excess of 6 feet 6 inches (or 1.98 metres) from proceeding in either direction will apply to the road listed in Schedule 3 to this notice.

d) A speed limit of 20mph will apply to the length of road listed in Schedule 4 to this notice.

e) Vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 3.5 tonnes or more will be prohibited from the roads listed in Schedule 5 to this notice.

3. During the works the alternative route for diverted traffic will be as described below and appropriately signposted.

• Via Coulsdon Road, Marlpit Lane, Farthing Way, Brighton Road, Purley Cross, A22 Godstone Road, Wapses Lodge roundabout, Croydon Road, Station Avenue, Church Hill, Church Road, High Street, Townend, Banstead Road and vice versa.

4. The Order will come into operation on the 15 August 2024 and it is anticipated that the works will be completed within 19 days.

However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further works be required. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

5. These restrictions shall not apply in respect of:

(a) A vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(b) Anything done with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a Civil Enforcement Officer.

(c) Any vehicle being used to carry out the works.

(d) Refuse vehicles carrying out refuse collections, or vehicles being used for the purposes of a statutory undertaker in an emergency (such as the loss of utility supplies to premises in the area, which requires vehicles to be brought into a section of road to which the order applies).
