M20 MOTORWAY AND A20 TRUNK ROAD (SWANLEY INTERCHANGE TO TFL BOUNDARY)

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M20 Motorway and A20 Trunk Road in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to enable the safe conduct of works on the Transport for London (TfL) section of the road west of the boundary. The effect of the Order would be to:-

1. authorise the phased overnight and full weekend closure of both carriageways of the A20 between M20 Junction 1 and the TfL boundary, and all slip roads leading to and from this length of carriageway;

2. impose a 24-hour 40mph speed restriction on the London-bound carriageway of the M20 and A20 between a point 765 metres west of the centreline of the underbridge at A225 Dartford Road and the TfL boundary, and all slip roads leading to this length of carriageway. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway and drainage works on the TfL network and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 2 weeks starting on or after Friday 23rd August 2024. The full weekend closure is expected to take place on the coastbound carriageway between 22:00 on Friday 23rd August 2024 and 05:00 on Tuesday 27th August 2024. The overnight closures would take place between 22:00 and 06:00 on the London-bound carriageway (maximum periods). The Order would come into force on 21st August June 2024 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

Motorway traffic affected by the closure would be diverted using the A205, A2 and the M25. Non-motorway traffic will be diverted using the

A205, A20, A225 and the A20.

The temporary closures, speed restriction, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
