Fife, St Andrews (Lammas Market) - Temporary Traffic Restrictions and Road Closures, to allow for public safety.
What is happening?
THE FIFE COUNCIL (LAMMAS MARKET,
ST ANDREWS) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2024
Fife Council has made an Order under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984:-
(i) Prohibiting the use by vehicular traffic of the roads detailed in Schedules 1 and 2 below.
(ii) Prohibiting the waiting of vehicles on both sidesof Queens Gdns from South St southerly for 90m; both sides of Bell St; and both sides of South St from West Port to Abbey St from 13.00hrs on 11/08/24 until 12 noon on 14/08/24.
(iii) Establishing a temporary taxi rank on the west side of Greyfriars Gdn from 15.00hrs on 11/08/24 until 12.00 noon on 14/08/24.
(iv) Establishing temporary disabled bays on the east side of Greyfriars Gdn from 12 noon on 08/08/24 until 12.00 noon on 14/08/24.
(v) Establishing a temporary loading bay on the south side of St. Mary’s Pl and the east side of Union St from 15.00hrs on 11/08/24 until 12.00hrs on 14/08/24.
The Order is to allow the annual Lammas Market to take place in safety and will be operational during the dates and times stated. Pedestrian access is unaffected by the Order. Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles at all times. SCHEDULE 1 –
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE
1. Market St between Bell St and Union St; and Church St (entire length) from 12.00hrs on 08/08/24 until 12.00hrs on 14/08/24 - access will be permitted for service vehicles only in an area at the west end of Market St and in Church St.
2. South St between West Port and Abbey St; and
Bell St (entire length) from 15.00hrs on 11/08/24 until 12.00hrs on 14/08/24 – access will be permitted for service vehicles only.
3. Queens Gdns (entire length) from 15.00hrs on 11/08/24 until 12.00hrs on 14/08/24 – access will be permitted for residents parking and service vehicles only.
The alternative routes for through traffic will be via North St, Abbey St, Abbey Walk, St. Mary St, Lamond Dr, Bridge St, City Rd, Queens Terr and Greenside Pl.
SCHEDULE 2 –
TEMPORARY ROLLING ROAD CLOSURES
A91 Petheram Roundabout; Links Cres/City Road Roundabout; North St/Golf Pl jct; North St/Greyfriars Gdn jct; St. Mary’s Pl/Bell St jct from 16.00hrs until 18.00hrs on 11/08/24. The roads will close and open as required to allow Police Scotland to manage access for event vehicles.
During the operation of the Order, The Fife Council (Central Area, St. Andrews) (Traffic Regulation) Order 2003 will not have effect in relation to the prohibition of left and right hand turns from North St onto Greyfriars Gdn, The Fife Council (Central Area, St. Andrews) Traffic Regulation Order 2013 and The Fife Council (Queen’s Gardens, St Andrews) (OneWay) Order 2019 will not have effect in relation to traffic direction on Queens Gds, Market St, Church St and Bell St.
