Newcastle Upon Tyne - Prohibit All Vehicles Multiple Roads For Red Bull Tyne Ride Event

What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(RED BULL TYNE RIDE EVENT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 25 July 2024 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.

2. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on -

(a) Quayside - from Milk Market south westwards for 428 metres,

(b) Broad Chare - from Quayside to Pandon,

(c) King Street - for its entire length,

(d) Lombard Street - for its entire length,

(e) Sandhill - from Close eastwards for 186 metres,

(f) Cycle route 72 - for the whole of the Quayside,

(g) Queen Street - for its entire length,

(h) Akenside Hill - for its entire length,

(i) Side - from Dean Street roundabout south eastwards for 100 metres.

3. The alternative route for vehicles will be signed on site as required.

4. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Red Bull Tyne Ride Event (“the Event”), enable members of the public to watch the Event and reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.

5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles involved with the Event and where possible for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call.

6. The Order will come into operation on 30 July 2024 and will continue in force as follows -

(a) in respect of the roads specified in paragraphs 2 (a) - (f) above, on Tuesday 30 July 2024 until Sunday 4 August 2024, and

(b) in respect of the roads specified in paragraphs 2 (g) - (i) above, on Saturday 3 August 2024 between 7am and 7pm (access for residents and deliveries only), as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.
