George Street Area, Edinburgh - Temporary Road Restrictions Due to George Street Festival

What is happening?

THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL

(GEORGE STREET FESTIVAL)
(TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2024 – TEMP/24/129

The Council, with the consent of Scottish Ministers, has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate the holding of the festival events on George St, no person shall: (a) cause or permit any motor vehicle to enter, proceed or wait between 23:00hrs on 25/7/24 & 20:00hrs on 27/8/24 on George St, from Hanover St to Frederick St (except event related vehicles); (b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle (except event vehicles): (i) from 18:30hrs on 25/7/24 to 20:00hrs on 27/8/24 on both sides of George St, from 40m west of Hanover St, westwards to its jnct with Frederick St (incl. central parking bays); & (ii) from 18:30hrs on 25/7/24 to 05:59hrs on 26/7/24; from 08:01hrs to 05:59hrs DAILY from 26/7/24 to 27/8/24; & then from 08:01hrs to 20:00hrs on 27/8/24 on both sides of George St, from its jnct with Hanover St, westwards for 40m (incl. central parking bays); & (c) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait from 06:00hrs to 08:00hrs DAILY from 25/7/24 to 27/8/24 on both sides of George St, from its jnct with Hanover St, westwards for 40m (incl. central parking bays) (except event vehicles). Existing restrictions may be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in (b) & (c).

The alternative route for vehicular traffic is via Frederick St, Queen St & Hanover St.

The order shall have effect during the hours and on the dates specified above.
