What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION
36 TO JUNCTION 37) (TEMPORARY
RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF
TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National
Highways Limited has made an Order
on the M62 Motorway, in the East Riding
of Yorkshire, to enable carriageway
construction and bridge improvement
works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on
Monday 22 July 2024 for 5 months,
or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours
a day, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a temporary 30mph and
50mph speed restriction on the M62
eastbound carriageway from 2000
metres west of the exit slip road at
Junction 36 (Airmyn) to the entry slip
road at Junction 37 (Howden),
a distance of 7100 metres;
(ii) impose a temporary 30mph and
50mph speed restriction on the
M62 westbound carriageway from
400 metres east of Howden Dyke
Road overbridge to Boothferry Road
overbridge, a distance of 5300 metres;
(iii) impose a temporary 30mph speed
restriction on the M62 westbound
entry and eastbound entry slip roads
at Junction 37;
(iv) impose a temporary 30mph speed
restriction on the M62 eastbound
entry slip road at Junction 36;
(v) close the M62 eastbound carriageway
from the exit slip road at Junction 36
to the entry slip road at Junction 37,
a distance of 5100 metres;
(vi) close the M62 westbound carriageway
from the exit slip road at Junction 37
to the entry slip road at Junction 36,
a distance of 5100 metres;
(vii) close the M62 eastbound entry and
westbound exit slip roads at Junction 36;
(viii) close the M62 eastbound exit and
westbound entry slip roads at
Junction 37; and
(ix) impose a contraflow system and
ban vehicles with an overall width
exceeding 6’6” in specified lanes of
the M62 westbound carriageway from
3000 metres east of Boothferry Road
overbridge westwards for a distance
of 2800 metres.
During the closures, suitably signed
alternative routes will be available at
all times.
The works will also require lane closures
24 hours a day, during which times the
hardshoulder will be used for traffic
adjacent to the M62:
(x) eastbound carriageway from 200 metres
west of Boothferry Road overbridge
eastwards for a distance of 500 metres;
(xi) eastbound carriageway from Dobella
Lane overbridge eastwards for a
distance of 8200 metres; and
(xii) westbound carriageway from
100 metres west of the exit slip
road at Junction 37 westwards for a
distance of 2700 metres;
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of
the restrictions (which will not apply to
emergency service vehicles or special
forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will
not apply to emergency services vehicles,
traffic officer vehicles or vehicles being
used in connection with the said works or
for winter maintenance purposes). Access
will be maintained at all times to premises
and property which are accessible from,
and only from, the M62. The Order comes
into force on 21 July 2024 and has a
maximum duration of eighteen months.
