Highways

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984,  makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY AREA

 

A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, CT1 1RD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow new connections, full carriageway reconstruction/widening, a signalised junction and associated works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury, on or after 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 22nd October 2024, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the western entrance to St Martin’s Hospital and Chaucer House Care Home, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via A257 St Martin’s Hill, Longport, Lower Chantry Lane, A2050 New Dover Road, Dover Road, Dover Road Slip East On, A2 Dover Road, Barham Slip Eastbound Off, B2046 Box Iron Road, Adisham Road, High Street, A257 Canterbury Road, Wingham Road, High Street, The Hill, Canterbury Road, A257 Littlebourne Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

A291 Herne Street, Herne.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of A291 Herne Street, Herne, on or after 6th August 2024, for up to one night, between the hours of 19.00 and 06.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between Park Place and Curtis Wood Park Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via A291 Herne Street, Canterbury Road, Calcott Hill, Herne Bay Road, Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, Staines Hill, Island Road, St Nicholas Roundabout, A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

A299 Thanet Way (Chestfield Tunnel), Chestfield.​ (TEMPORARY 40 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction on part of A299 Thanet Way (Chestfield Tunnel), Chestfield, on or after 26th July 2024, with estimated completion by 7th September 2024, or until the works have been completed.

London bound the temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction will be imposed 1200 metres past the Herne Bay on slip, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

Coast bound the temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction will be imposed 400 metres past the Whitstable on slip, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The temporary mandatory 40 mph speed restriction is in conjunction with a contraflow.

 

Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne, CT4 5DT (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bekesbourne Lane, Bekesbourne, on or after 22nd July 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Bekesbourne Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne Lane, A257 Littlebourne Road, Canterbury Road, The Hill, High Street, Bekesbourne Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Chartham Downs Road, Shalmsford Street & The Crescent, Chartham.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow gas main replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Chartham Downs Road, Shalmsford Street & The Crescent, Chartham, on or after 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 20th August 2024, or until the works have been completed.

Chartham Downs Road will be closed at the junction with Shalmsford Street and The Crescent, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

Shalmsford Street will be closed at the junction with The Crescent and Chartham Downs Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The Crescent will be closed from the junction with Shalmsford Street to Donian House, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic for Shalmsford Street & Chartham Downs Road is via Shalmsford Street, A28 Ashford Road, Thanington Road, Wincheap, Pin Hill, Rhodaus Town, Old Dover Road, Nackington Road, Faussett Hill, Street End, Chartham Downs Road and vice versa.

The alternative route for any through traffic for The Crescent is via The Crescent, Cockering Road, Milton Manor Road, then follow diversion for either Shalmsford Street or Chartham Downs Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Covet Lane, Kingston, CT4 6HX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow installation works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Covet Lane, Kingston, on or after 26th July 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 08.30 and 16.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed for the entire length, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Covet Lane, Turks Hill, Westwood Road, The Street, Bonny Bush Hill, Black Robin Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Dering Road, Bridge, CT4 5NB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Dering Road, Bridge, on or after 9th August 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with High Street to the junction with Dering Close, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Dering Road, Union Road, High Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Faversham Road, Seasalter, CT5 4BW (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow overhead cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Faversham Road, Seasalter, on or after 22nd July 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 412, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

Due to a low bridge, any vehicle over 11’6’’ requiring access between the closure and the bridge will be escorted through site when safe to do so.

The alternative route for any through traffic travelling westbound is via Faversham Road, Joy Lane, B2205 Borstal Hill, Clapham Hill, A299 Westbound on slip, A299 Thanet Way, Graveney off slip, Staple Street, Staple Street Road, Head Hill Road, Seasalter Road and Faversham Road.

The alternative route for any through traffic travelling eastbound is via Faversham Road, Seasalter Road, Head Hill Road, Whitstable Road, A299 Thanet Way on slip, A299 Thanet Way, A2990 Thanet Way slip way, A2990 (Old) Thanet Way, B2205 Borstal Hill, Joy Lane and Faversham Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Fitzgerald Avenue, Herne Bay, CT6 8BX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & TEMPORARY ONE-WAY SUSPENSION) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Fitzgerald Avenue, Herne Bay, from 20.00 hours on 23rd July 2024, with estimated completion by 06.00 hours on 24th July 2024, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed at the junction with B2205 Sea Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The One-Way Order on Fitzgerald Avenue will be suspended for the duration of the works.

The alternative route is via B2205 Sea Street, Beaumont Street, Clarendon Street, Fitzgerald Avenue and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Gas Passage, Canterbury, CT1 2PR (PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow repointing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through pedestrians on Gas Passage, Canterbury, on or after 22nd July 2024, for up to 5 days, or until the works have been completed.

The footpath will be closed between Castle Row and Castle Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for pedestrians is via Castle Row, Castle Street and vice versa.

 

Giles Lane, Canterbury.​ Giles Lane, Canterbury, CT2 7LR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Giles Lane, Canterbury, on or after 24th July 2024, for up to 3 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of ‘Duns Scotus’, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Giles Lane, A290 Whitstable Road, St Thomas Hill, Whitstable Road, Forty Acres Road, Beaconsfield Road, St Stephen’s Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Grove Road, Wickhambreaux, CT3 1SG (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Grove Road, Wickhambreaux, on or after 23rd July 2024, for up to one day, between the hours of 09.30 and 15.30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the Anglo Saxon Burial Ground, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Grove Road, The Street, Preston Lane, Preston Road, Preston Hill, A257 High Street, A257 Canterbury Road, A257 Wingham Road, A257 High Street, Nargate Street, Wickham Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Hardres Court Road, Upper Hardres.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow maintenance works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Hardres Court Road, Upper Hardres, on or after 5th August 2024, for up to 4 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Hardres Court, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Hardres Court Road, The Street, Bossingham Road, Curtis Lane, B2068 Stone Street, Street End, Hardres Court Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Herne Bay Carnival and Fireworks 2024 - William Street, Herne Bay.​ (TEMPORARY REVERSAL OF ONE-WAY ORDER) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow Herne Bay Carnival and Fireworks 2024 to be held, Kent County Council intends to make an Order temporarily reversing the One-Way Order on William Street, Herne Bay, from 19.00 hours on 10th August 2024, with estimated completion by 20.00 hours on 10th August 2024, or until the event has completed.

The One-Way Order on William Street will be temporarily reversed between the junctions of Central Parade and Mortimer Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

 

Mickleburgh Hill, Herne Bay, CT6 6LA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow street lighting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Mickleburgh Hill, Herne Bay, from 7th August 2024, for up to one night, between the hours of 23.50 and 04.50, with a back up date of 14th August 2024, for up to one night, between the hours of 23.50 and 04.50, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of Blacksole Bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Mickleburgh Hill, Margate Road, Margate Road Interchange, A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road, B2205 Canterbury Road, Mickleburgh Hill and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Prospect Place, Canterbury, CT1 3LX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow new service works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Prospect Place, Canterbury, on or after 22nd July 2024, for up to 5 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 18, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Prospect Place, Nunnery Fields, Puckle Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Spenser Road, Herne Bay, CT6 5QZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow renewal works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Spenser Road, Herne Bay, on or after 5th August 2024, for up to 5 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 25, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Spenser Road, Station Road, Kings Road, B2205 Canterbury Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

St George’s Terrace, Herne Bay, CT6 8TB (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow new service works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St George’s Terrace, Herne Bay, on or after 22nd July 2024, for up to 9 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 21, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via St George’s Terrace, Lane End, B2205 Avenue Road, Oxenden Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

St Margaret’s Street, Canterbury, CT1 2JS (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow drainage repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St Margaret’s Street, Canterbury, on or after 5th August 2024, with estimated completion by 8th August 2024, between the hours of 21.30 and 05.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 34, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via Hawks Lane, Stour Street, Beer Cart Lane, Watling Street, Rose Lane, Parade and St Margaret’s Street.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

St Peter’s Place, Canterbury, CT2 8BE (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow ducting works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of St Peter’s Place, Canterbury, on or after 9th August 2024, with estimated completion by 16th August 2024, between the hours of 19.00 and 05.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from number 31a, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route is via St Peters Roundabout, A2050 Rheims Way, London Road Roundabout, London Road, A290 St Dunstans Street, St Peters Place and vice versa.

Access to Tower Way will be maintained.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

The Hoystings Close, Canterbury, CT1 3JX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow duct works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on The Hoystings Close, Canterbury, from 7th August 2024, with estimated completion by 9th August 2024, between the hours of 08.00 and 22.00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed for the entire length, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

The Sycamores, Hersden, CT3 4JA (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow Section 278 works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of The Sycamores, Hersden, on or after 24th July 2024, for up to 40 days, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed at the junction with A28 Island Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

This closure is in conjunction with multi-way lights on A28 Island Road.

The alternative route is via The Sycamores, The Avenue, Blackthorn Road, A28 Island Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Westbrook Lane, Herne Bay, CT6 8DD (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER AUGUST 2024

To allow repair works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Westbrook Lane, Herne Bay.

Closures are planned in 2 phases:-

Phase 1 will be from 6th August 2024, for up to 2 nights, between the hours of 23.00 and 05.00.

Phase 2 will be from 11th August 2024, for 1 night, between the hours of 02.00 and 08.30.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

 

Various Roads, Canterbury.​ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER JULY 2024

To allow gas main replacement works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of various roads in Canterbury, on or after 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 30th August 2024, or until the works have been completed.

WORKS SCHEDULE

Hales Drive, Canterbury

Hales Drive will be closed from 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 13th August 2024.

The road will be closed at the junction with Manwood Avenue and The Terrace, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Hales Drive, St Stephen’s Hill, Downs Road, Tenterden Drive and vice versa.

Manwood Avenue, Canterbury

Manwood Avenue will be closed from 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 13th August 2024.

The road will be closed from the junction with The Crescent, to the junction with The Terrace and Hales Drive, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Manwood Avenue then follow the diversion for The Terrace or Hales Drive.

The Terrace, Canterbury

The Terrace will be closed from 24th July 2024, with estimated completion by 13th August 2024.

The road will be closed from number 1, to the junction with Manwood Avenue and Hales Drive, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Hales Drive, St Stephen’s Hill, Downs Road, Tenterden Drive and vice versa.

Tenterden Drive, Canterbury

Tenterden Drive will be closed from 12th August 2024, with estimated completion by 30th August 2024.

The road will be closed from the junction with The Terrace, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Long Meadow Way.

The Terrace, Canterbury

The Terrace will be closed from 12th August 2024, with estimated completion by 30th August 2024.

The road will be closed at the junction with Tenterden Drive, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for vehicles is via Hales Drive, St Stephens Road, Broad Oak Road, Farleigh Road, Tenterden Drive and follow Tenterden Drive diversion if required.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.
