Devils Dyke Interchange/Lancing Roundabout - Temporary Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
A27 TRUNK ROAD (DEVILS DYKE INTERCHANGE TO LANCING ROUNDABOUT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways has made an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a)
and (b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 due to the likelihood of danger to the public and remedial works taking place following damage to
a bridge parapet.
This forms an extension of Temporary Notice NH/2024/E478 (which it thereby replaces) as permitted by The Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992, Regulation 7.
The effect of the Order is to:-
1. authorise the 24-hour closure of: -
(a) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Hangleton Interchange (A293) and Adur Viaduct (A283);
(b) all the roads leading to and from the carriageway described in (a) above; and (c) any lay-by adjacent to the carriageway described in (a) above;
2. impose a 24-hour 50mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway of the A27 between the centreline of Devil’s Dyke Interchange (A2038) and the entry slip at Adur Viaduct (A283), and all slip roads leading to that said
carriageway when the carriageway is not closed as in 1. above.
These measures are in the interests of road safety following damage to the bridge parapet at Adur Viaduct.
It is expected that the danger will last for approximately 1 month starting on or after Friday 21st June 2024. Please consult National Highways website for further details.
The Order came into force on 21st June 2024 and has a maximum duration of 18 months, ceasing when the works are complete and the danger has passed.
Traffic affected by the closure in 1(a) above will be diverted using the A293, A270, and A283.
Traffic affected by the closure of the exit slip at Adur Viaduct (A283) above when the main carriageway is open will be diverted westbound on the A27 to Manor Road (Lancing) roundabout (A2025) and return.
The temporary closures, speed limit and diversion will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works/danger period.
