Newcastle upon Tyne - Multiple Traffic Notices For Newcastle Half Marathon And 10K Event
What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(NEWCASTLE HALF MARATHON AND 10k EVENT) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
2. The effect of the Order is to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on-
(i) Loverose Way, from Kingston Park Stadium southwards to Brunton Road,
(ii) Brunton Road, from Loverose Way north eastwards for 517 metres to Brunton Lane,
(iii) Brunton Lane, from Brunton Road northwards for 2.4km to Main Road,
(iv) Main Road, from Brunton Road northwards for 4km to Berwick Hill Road,
(v) Berwick Hill Road, from Main Road north eastwards for 3km to Old Great North Road, (vi) Old Great North Road, from Berwick Hill Road southwards for 1.1km to Brenkley Lane, and
(vii) Brenkley Lane, from Old Great North Road westwards for 3.05km to Berwick Hill Road.
3. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the closure.
4. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Newcastle Half Marathon and 10k Event (“the Event”), enable members of the public to watch the Event and reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
5. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles involved with the Event and where possible, for police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call.
6. The Order will come into operation on 14 July 2024 and will continue for one day, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. The roads will be closed between approximately 08:00 and 13:00, although the roads may be reopened earlier if it is safe to do so.
