(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
ORDER 2024
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) has made an Order on the A1(M) Motorway in the County of Cambridgeshire, to enable bearing replacement works to St Andrews Bridge at Sawtry, renewal of road markings and vehicle safety fence upgrades to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to last for approximately 5 months, starting on, or after, Monday 1 July 2024 and will be carried out using a combination of narrow lanes and hard shoulder running. There will be a temporary mandatory speed limit in force at times in the interest of safety.
The effect of the Order on the A1(M) will be to impose, for 24 hours daily, -
1. a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour, on the -
• northbound carriageway from a point 900 metres south of Sawtry Toll overbridge to a point 865 metres north of St Andrews Bridge, Sawtry, and
• southbound carriageway from a point 921 metres south of Glatton Ways Flyover to a point 640 metres south of the centre point of St Andrews Bridge, Sawtry, and
2. a vehicle width restriction of 2.5 metres in the offside lane, on the -
• northbound carriageway from a point 8 metres south of Sawtry Toll overbridge to a point 865 metre north of St Andrews Bridge, Sawtry, and
• southbound carriageway from a point 1650 metres south of Glatton Ways Flyover to a point 457 metres south of St Andrews Bridge, Sawtry.
When the width restriction and narrow lanes are in operation traffic will be directed to run on the hard shoulder at times.
The temporary mandatory speed limit (which will not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles) will be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
The Order will come into force on 24 June 2024 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed or for a maximum duration of eighteen months, whichever is the earlier.
