Various Roads In Newcastle - Prohibition All Vehicles For Blaydon Race
What is happening?

(BLAYDON RACE - VARIOUS ROADS IN NEWCASTLE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2024
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 6th June 2024 the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and has received consent from the Secretary of State for Transport to make such an Order.
2. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicles from proceeding on the following lengths of road in Newcastle - B1600 - between City Road and Quayside, Quayside - between Milk Market and Sandhill, Sandhill - for its entire length, Swing Bridge - for its entire length within Newcastle City boundary, Javel Groupe - for its entire length, Close - for its entire length, Forth Banks - from Skinnerburn Road north westwards for 60 metres, Scotswood Road (westbound) - between Plummer Street and William Armstrong Drive, Scotswood Road (both directions) - between William Armstrong Drive and Scotswood Bridge, Whitehouse Road - from Scotswood Road northwards for 40 metres, B|Skinnerburn Road - for its entire length, Shot Factory Lane - for its entire length, Water Street - from Skinnerburn Road northwards for 20 metres, Monarch Road - for its entire length, William Armstrong Drive - for its entire length and Scotswood Bridge - for its entire length within Newcastle City boundary.
3. The existing prohibition of motor vehicles restriction on Side between Dean Street and Quayside will be suspended.
4. The alternative routes for vehicles will be via the local highway network and indicated by diversion signs.
5. The Order is required to facilitate the holding of the Blaydon Race Event 2024 (“the Event”), enable members of the public to watch the Event and reduce the disruption to traffic likely to be caused by the Event. The Order is required to allow the Event to be carried out safely on or near the highway and to ensure the health and safety of the general public.
6. An exemption in the Order will permit the use of the lengths of road specified in paragraph 1 above by vehicles associated with the Event.
7. The Order will be in operation on Sunday 9th June 2024 as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed and will be valid for a maximum period of one day (However it is anticipated that the roads will be closed between approximately 6.30pm and 9.15pm).
