What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (A167 & B1284, Chester-le-Street) (Temporary Prohibition of Left and Right Turn, Prohibition of Driving, Stopping, Waiting and Loading) Order 2023

The Council on 23/6/2023 made the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended, Section 14 (1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road as follows:-

Prohibition of Left Turn from *: a.Stadium Way to B1284 Rotary Way toward A167 b.Scorer's Lane, Great Lumley to B1284 Lumley New Road c.Back Lane, Great Lumley to B1284 Lumley New Road

Prohibition of Right Turn from *: a. B1284 Rotary Way roundabout to Stadium Way b.Lumley Castle egress to B1284 Lumley New Road c.Riverside Park car park to B1284 Rotary Way

Prohibition of Driving *: a.in a westerly direction on B1284 Lumley New Road between Scorers Lane Roundabout, Great Lumley and Stadium Way Roundabout, Chester-le-Street (except emergency services and scheduled service buses) b.in a westerly direction between Stadium Way Roundabout and A167 c.from Riverside Car Park to Stadium Way

Prohibition of Waiting and Loading on:- a.Rotary Way extending west from Stadium Way Roundabout to A167 Park Road Central and continuing on A167 south for 50 metre, and also on A167 northbound carriageway from Ropery Lane Roundabout for 50 metres b. A167 Park Road Central northbound carriageway from outside number 24 for a distance of 160 metres c. Lindom Avenue east sides extending south from Roman Avenue for 30 metres d. Queens Park south side opposite number 4 to junction Ropery Lane, from junction Ropery Lane west side for 30 metre, eastern side opposite numbers 2-14 e.Holmlands Park between numbers 28-30 west side; and 25 metre lengths both sides extending north from Ropery Lane to St Cuthbert's Primary School f.Ropery Lane 10 metre lengths north side adjacent to 5 Holmlands Park and the Presbytery g. Lancaster Terrace from junction A167 on both sides to rear of 'Lancastria' and 'The Old Weigh House Hall'; around the grassed 'roundabout' adjacent number 66; rear and sides of numbers 66 and 1 Castle Close h. Beverley Gardens around the grassed area between 1-23 and 2-12 i. Crichton Avenue northern side between numbers 3 and 38; southern side from number 8 to A167.

Prohibition of Stopping on:- a. A167 Park Road Central north of A167 Ropery Lane Roundabout for 175 metres b. A167 Park Road South south of A167 Ropery Lane Roundabout for 210 metres c.Rotary Way east of A167 Ropery Lane Roundabout for 165 metres to enable a controlled exit from large scale events at the Riverside Stadium, Chester-le-Street. 'The one-way system and associated prohibitions of turning will be deployed as part of the crowd exit strategy at the end of the event. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the westbound closure from B1284 eastwards to Woodstone Village and northwards on the C88 link onto the A1052, left onto the A183 Chester Road, second exit at the J63 roundabout onto the A167 where the diversion will end.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months commencing from 30/6/2023. The waiting and loading restrictions will be implemented between 8am and 23.39 pm on Friday 31/5/2024, Thursday 13/6/2024, Sunday 16/6/2024, Friday 21/6/2024, Friday 5/7/2024, Friday 12/7/2024 and Sunday 14/7/2024 with the full scope of restrictions required on Tuesday 24 September 2024 and may apply to other events during the 18 month validity period that are authorised by DCC. These events will be advertised and signed on site accordingly.
