Gateshead - Multiple Road Closures to Enable the Safe Management of Vehicular and Pedestrian Traffic to Ensure the Blaydon Race

What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (BLAYDON RACE 2024) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE ORDER 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY given that on the 29 May 2024 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order, following the consent of the Secretary of State and in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16A - 16C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The Order is required to enable the safe management of vehicular and pedestrian traffic to ensure the Blaydon Race can be conducted safely.

The effect of the Order, which commences on Sunday 9 June 2024 is to temporarily:-

1) Prohibit vehicular traffic from the roads listed in Schedule 1 Item 1 - 6 and 8 - 10 progressively from 16:30 until 21:00 and the road described at Item 7 of Schedule 1 between the hours of 00.01 to 21:00;

2) Prohibit vehicles from stopping, waiting or loading along the lengths of roads listed in Schedule 2; and

3) Suspend the prohibition to motorised vehicles in Blaydon Bus Station from a point 16 metres north east of the junction with Garden Street in a north easterly direction for a distance of 125 metres.

The roads will be closed approximately at the above times or at such times as the relevant traffic signs are in place. During the prohibition all vehicles (except emergency service vehicles on duty and vehicles involved in the Event) will be prohibited from the lengths of road described in Schedule 1 and prohibited from stopping, waiting or loading in the lengths of road described in Schedule 2. During the closures there will be signed diversions in place. This closure will affect Chainbridge Road and Blaydon Haugh Industrial Estate and there will be no access to and from Chainbridge Road during the approximate times above or at such times as the relevant traffic signs are in place.

SCHEDULE 1
TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROADS

1. Chainbridge Road

i)

from the traffic light controlled junction with Shibdon Road to the bifurcation with the A695 Blaydon Highway eastbound carriageway.

ii)

from the bifurcation with A695 Blaydon Highway westbound carriageway off slip to the give way junction in a westerly direction for a distance of 670 metres.

2. A695 Blaydon Highway

both the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A695 Blaydon Highway from the junction with Riverside Way Roundabout to the junction with the A695 Blaydon Roundabout.

3. A695 Scotswood Bridge

i)

A695 Scotswood Bridge South West entry slip road from the bifurcation with the A695 Chainbridge Road eastbound carriageway to the centre of Scotswood Bridge for a distance of 225 metres.

ii)

A695 Scotswood Bridge South entry slip road from the bifurcation with the A695 Chainbridge Road westbound carriageway to the bifurcation with the A695 Scotswood Bridge South West entry slip road for a distance of 295 metres.

iii)

A695 Scotswood Bridge south exit slip road from the bifurcation with the south east exit slip road to the bifurcation with the A695 Chainbridge Road westbound carriageway for a distance of 250 metres.

iv)

A695 Scotswood Bridge south east exit slip road from the bifurcation with the South exit slip road to the bifurcation with the A695 Chainbridge Road eastbound carriageway for a distance of 120 metres.

4. A695 Blaydon Highway eastbound on slip road

A695 Blaydon Highway westbound on slip road from the roundabout on Chainbridge Road 50 metres north of the junction with Cowen Road to A695 Blaydon Roundabout.

5. Derwenthaugh Marina

i)

Derwenthaugh Marina Access Road for its whole length.

ii)

Tundry Way from Derwenthaugh Marina Access Road to Tollbridge Road.

6. Tollbridge Road

from Tundry Way to its junction with Chainbridge Road.

7. Tyne Street

from the east end of the Blaydon Staff Social Club over a length of 60 metres in an easterly direction to the bifurcation with the A695 Blaydon Highway eastbound on slip road.

8. Swing Bridge

from its centre to the junction with Pipewellgate.

9. Bridge Street

from the junction with Pipewellgate to the junction with Bottle Bank.

10. Bottle Bank

i)

from the junction with Askew Road Bus Gate to the bifurcation with the A167 Tyne Bridge approach.

ii)

prohibition of the left hand turn from Bottle Bank onto Bridge Street.

SCHEDULE 2
TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF WAITING, STOPPING OR LOADING

1. The east and west side of West View from the junction with Shibdon Road over a length of 25 metres in a southbound direction.

2. The east and west side of East View from the junction with Shibdon Road over a length of 20 metres in a southbound direction.

3. The east and west side of the back lane of Lucy Street from the junction with Shibdon Road over a length of 18 metres in a southbound direction.

4. The east and west side of Lucy Street from the junction with the Shibdon Road over a length of 25 metres in a southbound direction.

5. The east and west side of Larch Street from the junction with Shibdon Road to the junction with Elm Road over a length of 200 metres.

6. The north and south side of Shibdon Road from the junction with the entrance into the Morrisons car park to the junction with Axwell Park road over a length of 1170 metres.

7. The north side of Tyne Street from the east end of the Blaydon Staff Social Club over a length 360 metres in an eastbound direction.
